I need your help. I have a strange noise coming from the rear end of the vette, while inside driving, I can hear the noise come and go but I can't tell what side of the car it comes from. Can anyone tell me what type of sound might I hear if a rear wheel bearing is going out? If that is the case, what's the best fix for the problem...complete new trailing arms or purchase the bearings and have someone install them?

take a hard right turn and listen. If it gets worse than it's the left brg. than take a left if it gets worse it's the right. if it does it on both turns it's not the wheel brg.

Found It.....o.k., just to bring you up to speed. I replaced the rear chunk, bushings, mono spring, shocks, etc...during the winter. Shortly after, this strange noise would come and go. I had it up on the lift yesterday and found the problem. The chunk dust cap on the left side was loose and causing the problem.
Now I have another problem....as it seems during our run to Helen a few short weeks ago, I really worked the wheel bearings. When I was driving home today, I started hearing a clunk sound from the left side of the vehicle. It was almost like a poping sound from the wheel. Anyway, after inspection of the wheel, it's a bearing. I bought replacements a while back but now I need to have them installed. I don't want to drive the vehicle and need to get the assembly off the car. I need to locate a vette professional in the area. If anyone knows of someone in the South West Georgia area, please let me know.

Thanks

I have replaced the rear bearings, leaf spring, strut rods w/smart sturts. & emergency brakes on my 75. Hopefully someone has already drilled out studs already, they're not needed. you will have to buy an item that screws on so that you can pound off the assembly after you remove the half shaft & nut. I didn't have any problems with washers to get the correct tolerances when putting it back together. You will need a good mini sledge hammer. Seems like I had to replace the shock mount on one side too which also took several hours to remove.

Finished...thanks for the info....I didn't have the time or tools to do the job myself, so I shopped around. Finally I gave up and took it to the local Chevy Dealer. They did the job in three hours at a cost of $215.00 labor ( I supplied the parts). At least now it's done.
