That brake shop only looked at my brakes and told me that. They did not remove anything to check numbers, thickness or anything that I am aware of.
Totally eyeballed.

We won't be purchasing these tools. We also won't be doing this job ourselves. Unless our mechanic friend HAS these tools and knows how to use them, we will need to send ours to someone who DOES know.
...and I know someone in TX... ;)

Texas! I know someone who lives there.:D

Speaking of rotors my current supplier has temporarily run out of front replacement rotors. The good news is I have found a very high quality USA cast and machined rotor for a resonable price. Once I confirm availibility I will have them on the website.
Minimum thickness is 1.21 on a machined rotor. Usually a clean up turning (not scored) takes off about .016 -.020. At best a rotor can take two clean up cuts before you need to toss it. The old organic pads caused very little wear on the rotor. Metallic and semi- metallic pads will wear the rotor down. Many modern day rotors such as BMW, Mercedes, Ford and Dodge lite duty trucks will wear the rotors below minimum thickness before the pads are worn out.
