1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
Any body get this month corvette fever magazine.

they have an article named MID- YEAR DYNO DUKE-OUT

Where any of our members here part of this.If yes congradulations

One of the cars I have seen on a web site prior but I think he was from the corvette forum. Its the black 65 B/B with the sticker on the side.

Any ways I have not dynoed my 66 yet and thought the numbers were disapointing that they posted

There is this one car a 66 427/425 car L72 motor (same as mine) and it shows max rwhp of 292 @ 4700 rpms Way under where the power in my car is coming on but It seems low.Maybee he did not want to make a full pull ? I had my 02 vette done with only a cat back exchaust done and it had 316 rwhp and that car has an automatic in it.

And seat of the pants between the 66 and the 02 says the 66 will leave the 02 in the dust out of the hole.

Do you think they just did not rev these cars up into there power band?On my 66 its timid and a kitten to drive below 5000 grand and a real wild ride up around 6000 grand.

You have to allow that those cars rated HP was GROSS hp, not NET. That 425 GROSS hp would be around the 335 NET hp level, or less then the C5. Then you factor in the drive train loss and the 292 rwhp starts to sound reasonable.

tom...

Thanks Tom

Gross to Net this is where I get confused?

so my 02 is rated at 350 NET

and the 66 is rated 425 gross

350 X 17% loss = 290.50
actual highest pull the 02 had was 316-290.50= 26 hp over what it should have been the cat back exchaust was supposed to increase only 13 hp so they felt the motor was a Queer motor because it was so high in the hp.

So What is the geustimate on what the 66 RWHP would be.

And is the seat of the pants I have false that the 66 would win in a short race?

I will lookat dyno sheet tonight to see what it was then compare it to the posted results in the corvette fever mag

As I understood it.

Torgue gets you off the line
Horse power gets you to the end of the track?

MID- YEAR DYNO DUKE-OUT? LOL LOL

It was just for fun. They didnt push the cars too hard as most
were fully restored street cruisers.
While not making any excuses, my car is retarded to run on
91 pump gas. 2 yr old plugs, & didnt warm it up.
They shut down at 5750 as I recall? (have the sheet around here somewhere?)
Seems to me 300.05 RWHP at 5750? and about 325 RWTQ
around 3000 rpm? (cant remember) Both pulls took less than a minute.
If I had known a mag was going to be there and it was going into print I would have advanced the timing (To stock specs), ran something other than .91 and had them run the old bomber to 6500 as the HP was still climbing at 5750 on the dyno sheet.
(I take it to 6500 often, and yes it comes alive over 5500 rpm)
But like I said, it was just for fun. This group meets the 1st Sunday of the month and tries to do something different now and then. Meet for an hour, then a 1/2 hr cruise, then all stop for lunch. What's really fun is driving in a line going down PCH with 30 fellow Midyrs!
Are there any pic's in the mag?
I have not seen it.
What issue? Month?

Found my dyno sheet. 9/20/03
1st pull 'cold' 10:39:50 am , 295.8 hp & 318.5 TQ
2nd pull 10:40.30 am 300.3 @ 5750 RPM
324.7 tq @ 3700 RPM.
It was worth the $35.00, & everyone had a blast!
But wished they would have ran it up to 6500, just
to see what it would do.
It was a quick roll up, run & get off.
The shop ran the cars, so you know they took it easy.
No one wanted to throw a rod, then we couldn't cruise!
We will just have to go back and do it again!
Like I said it was fun. Most just drove up and had 2 quick pulls.
There were a couple that were running race fuel, & did some tuning prior to the run. But most of us didnt take it too seriously.
It was almost everyone's 1st time on a RW Dyno.
Lots of fun.

"There is this one car a 66 427/425 car L72 motor (same as mine) and it shows max rwhp of 292 @ 4700 rpms Way under where the power in my car is "

I think he may be running with alum heads and a HYD cam,
if its the car I am thinking of.

396 rat is your car the black car with stickers on the side?

Congrats I have the mag email me your adress and I will fed ex you a copy tomorow.

AS QUOTED FROM THE MAG

Owned by Mark Xxxxxxxx this 65 396 convertable has quite a history. It was originally sold by Dick Gulfstrand at Baher Chevrolet ,where he worked when he wasn't racing .The car was raced and autocrossed from 1965 to 1987.In 1965,Torq-Thrust wheel were added. In the mid -'70s,Gulfstrand modified the suspention. The car is unrestored and the body proudly displays its maturity.Xxxxxxxxxx is the third owner, and though the decades.all the original parts were kept.

END OF QUOTE

there is a nice picture of the car then they say

QUOTE

The interiour is stock and the shifterhooks up to a M20 4-speed rear end ratio is 4:11.Gulfstrand autographed the glove box door

END OF QUOTE
then ther is a picture of your interiour.

AGAIN CONGRATS and for sure I was not speaking ill of your car just curious about the HP numbers

Some day I hope to have one of my cars in a magazine.(actually I should say when I own it.) 2 of the mustangs MACH 1'S I had restored both made it into a magazine after I sold them. Both of them were purchased from me by the same guy about 16 month apart and they did a spread on the two of them in his garage.

Thanks, that picture was taken while standing in my garage
5 yrs ago. Still looks about the same. But has the side pipe molding's installed. There was a mag. guy at the dyno run taking photos & getting phone numbers. I talked to him a bit during the day. He called that night and instead of yacking about my car I just gave him my web page address. There are so many great cars in that group I am flattered to have any coverage!
This is a very cool surprise!
Thanks!
:eek :_rock :Steer :m

Thanks for the info!
Picked up a copy over the weekend.
Some of the cars were stock, some were not.
The ZR1 had head work, cam, exhaust and chip.
They ran it till the rev limiter kicked in.
The 65 fuelie, had a miss/knock so they shut it down early.
Some of the BB's had HYD lifters, and some cars were rebuilt
with lower comp pistons.
So you have to take the big "Dyno Shoot out" with a grain of salt.
Only 2 or 3 cars tuned and prepped for it.
(New plugs, fuel, timing)
My engine was last rebuilt in 1976, so there are lots of variables here.
If you ever get the chance to run your car on a rear wheel
dyno, go for it! Its a lot of fun.
