Rear Window Defogger

I have a '92 C4 and I have a question about the rear window defogger. I live in the Pacific Northwest (Go Seahawks!) and in the winter contrary to popular belief, it does rain, and because of the moist air, sometimes it is neccessary to defog the rear hatch. My defogger functions ok, but only stays on for a max of 4 minutes. A lot of the time, that is not enough time to defog the hatch. And of course if you push the defogger button again, it won't stay on. Is the relay a timer and if so, can you replace it with a different relay that would keep the defogger on longer?

Thanks in advance.

The defogger shud come on initially for 10 minutes. If you push the button again it shud come on for 5 minutes. You may have a bad relay which is located behind the left hand instrument panel to the right of the steering column. Maybe someone else who has changed one could be of more help? This is from a 95 manual, but shud be approximate.

The CCM regualtes the relay time factor so there is no separate timer as far as I can tell.

Thank you Rabbit. I will check it out. I did take the car to the dealer last year and they replaced the relay. I guess I should have asked them at the time, but the defogger has never gone more than 4 minutes and like I said... push the button again and it goes off after about 5-10 seconds.
