Hello,

This is directed at 2001 Z06 owners. We have recently have seen a small number of Z06 owners complain about a loud noise problems coming from the front side of the tranny and or from under the motor assembly. Each case and the noise description has been a little different from owner to owner.

Of you are hearing something like this, it would be best to go to your Chevy dealers. The problem is the CAM being defective in many units. Most of these problems have been showing up in the range of 7500 to 12000 miles.

Play it safe.................Have your car checked out. GM is aware of these problems but no recalls have been scheduled as of June 1, 2003.

The number of CAM defects may just be small. Only time will tell. It is also a good time to have your rings changed out if you are experiencing oil comsumption issue.

Any other questions, please email me directly.

Stan:)

Hi there,
After a conference call with GMpowertrain, there is no known concern that you are sighting within the Generation 3 driveline in Z cars.
Corvette brand quality also has NO cases in the Technical assistance center.
Also, what is the frequency of the noise???? Amplitude????? Also, what exactly is wrong with the camshaft?????
I would suggest that more facts about what, where, why and how should be posted.

CAM issue

Cases of replacement are a new issue and are just starting to surface. Since I am not in the a Chevy Service center to make note of this problem, I cannot answer it with more conviction or definition.

Like I said, GM has not made any statement regarding this matter. The number of cases still must be small. A Re-call will require more of these problems to surface.

Do not know if this is a product run issue that may effect only a small number cars. David at Tom Jumper Chevy here in Atlanta has seen his share of these problems.

It was both our intentions to let the Z06 owner that may feel or they believe they may have an issue, it would be best to have their car checked. Safety is the first concern here.

Lets hope this is just small in nature.

Take care,
Stan

Stan,

I removed your second account which is why it reads "Guest" under your username. I'm not sure why you registered with the forums twice???

Anyway, does anyone have any updates on this issue? Paul, if possible, please keep us posted on this.

HI Rob,
I have confered with both Corvette brand quality, and line engineers at Bowling Green. There have been no documented cases within GM technical assistance network.
So, with that, they will be monitoring the situation, and will let me know if there is anything further to this concern.

I am an owner of an '01 Z06. I am getting a high pitched whine from the front of the motor at idle. Sounds like a bearing. The local dealer has replaced the belts, changed the intake, and air conditioning idler. The noise is still there. The tech has removed all the belts and the noise was still audible. I was told by the service writer that he has other Corvettes with the same problem... so far the service team does not have a clue. I was in Nashville, Tn. July 26-27, with 5 other 01' Z06's and mine was the only one exhibiting the problem. Could it be the cam bearings??
