Record Broken as Part of 2013 Corvettes at Carlisle Weekend

CARLISLE, PA – What do you get when beautiful weather mixes with passionate enthusiasts and the regional debut of the brand new 2014 Stingray? The answer is simple - record numbers! The 2013 Corvettes at Carlisle weekend hosted well over 5,000 Corvettes, more than half of which were part of the Corvette America Fun Field. In addition, the star of the weekend wasn't a special guest in human form; it was a machine, the Stingray, that brought people out in droves. With the car onsite, along with the GM Team that designed it, plus the special 1963 celebrations, the annual all-Corvette-themed weekend at Carlisle was a smashing success.

Though the event is officially just three days, cars and vendors were onsite as early as Tuesday and for Early Bird Thursday, the Fun Field welcomed a few thousand Corvettes and guests who wanted to get a jump on the swap meet and car corral shopping experience. As Thursday transitioned into Friday, business really picked up. Despite intermittent wet weather Friday, the spirits of show goers could not be dampened. The hottest attraction, as expected, was the 2014 Stingray. Over a dozen of the new C7s came to Carlisle and were positioned throughout the grounds. Best of all, GM hosted multiple walk around seminars in front of the grandstand where people could see, many for the first time ever, the next generation of Corvette up close and personal. Additional seminars were held onsite too, including ones hosted by Paul Koerner, Peter Brock, Dave McLellan, Lake Speed, Jr. and more. The day wrapped with a burnout competition that saw the one and only Wil Cooksey rip up some tires in a car given to him by Kerbeck Chevrolet.

Saturday was a resounding success and saw cars literally streaming onsite non-stop for over four hours. From sunup to sundown, Carlisle, Pennsylvania was a bastion of Corvette excitement and again the Stingray and seminars were popular features. In addition, the grounds swelled to a point that additional parking spaces had to be found, just so everyone with a Corvette could be accommodated onsite. For the second consecutive day, the GM Team as well as additional guests hosted an autograph session and downtown Carlisle came to life at 7 p.m. with nearly 400 Corvettes lining the streets for the always popular Corvette Parade.

The final day of the 2013 weekend hosted an awards parade, autocross and a fun array of kids activities. It also allowed for one final review of the Stingray and one final review of the great displays of 1963 Corvettes, both within Chip's Choice and as part of the 63 '63s display.

"Other than a few drops on Friday, we had perfect weather for the entire weekend and that helped break a Fun Field record," noted event manager Lance Miller. "The all-new Stingray was a major success, in fact early Friday morning I went over to the Chevrolet Display Tent to say hello to the Corvette team. Much to my surprise the tent was packed with smiling faces checking out the car. They were busy all weekend with enthusiasts eager to see it," continued Miller. "When walking around the event I had the opportunity to meet many new faces, people that let me know it was their first time to the event and I'm thrilled to see the hobby is vibrant and more alive than ever. The Carlisle Team did an amazing job too and I'm proud to be a part of it!" Miller concluded with a simple reminder; "Save the date, because Corvettes at Carlisle returns August 22-24, 2014."
