I've got the plastic parts all dyed red, and the hinges, and seat rails primed and painted black, and as soon as christmas is over, I'll be able to start recovering the 4" seat foam that I have sitting in my room.
I set the foam in place today and it didn't seem to fit... The back is a few inches taller than my seat back, and the bottom seems to stick out from the front more than it should. When I recover the seats does the foam get compressed enough so that it fits?? did I order the wrong foam??
Oh, and one more question, I orderd the installation kit from corvette central is this really enough stuff to do two seats? It says enough to do two seat covers, but my dad seems to think that this means the back seat cover, and the bottom seat cover.
Sorry to ask so many questions, but as the time comes closer, I'm getting really nervous about messing this up.

Thanks for the help guys!

For what it's worth, Ecklers advertises a 1 hour video on re-doing your interior. Supposedly it goes into detail on the seat foam replacement and recovering. It's around $25.

I haven't seen it, as I sent my seats to CA and let them do it. Maybe someone else who has seen the video could comment.

Hi, the install kit will do both seats. You will be using a few wires from the ones you are taking apart so don't toss anything untill you are completely finished. The only thing they don't really send enough of is the hog rings. You can buy them at any automotive supply place in your town. Don't forget the HOG RING PLIERS. Impossible to do the job with out them. As for the foam, the new will be considerably stiffer and somewhat larger, but not extreme. Are you sure you have 4" seams? Ive done several for myself and friends and yet to do a 4" but should be the same process. Make sure the foam is not 2" that you are taking out. Take your time and have someone there to help stretch the cover while you attatch it and you should have a professional looking job when finished. As you take the old one apart remember the sequence as you will have to install certain areas before others. If you need any more info let me know. Fred

Chris,

Either set, 4" or 2" will fit into the seat frames. The thing that you need to be certain of is that you have ordered the foam and covers to match in size, both 4" or both 2". I believe that Nut replaced his original 2" bolsters with 4" just awhile ago. I did mine as well but stayed with the original 2". Yes, the foam does compress some but not a whole lot.

re:

Yeah I did order both the 4" foam and seat covers, havn't thrown any of the old wire away either, infact I primed and painted all of the old wire in the drivers seat for something to do =). My dad did a custome recovering of the seats in a Rolls Royce so he has plenty of left over hog rings, and he has a few sets of the pliers.
Any other tips would be helpfull though, it doesn't look like it is going to be much fun getting those seats to snap into place.

Hi again, getting the top half is a pain to snap back into place. I made a tool from an old screw driver by putting a notch in the flat and hooking it on the wire. Then just push hard till it catches the latch on the back portion of the seat. Fred
