I want to paint my stock brake calipers red. Any suggestions on how to clean them before painting and what kind of paint should I use?

hi btbm2, i painted mine with engine epoxy spray paint, they were on a '99 and about 6 months old when i did and they were not very grimmy. i would use a good degreaser and then wipe them down with alcohol.Mine still looked great when i sold the car 3 years later.dennis:w

Mid America makes a kit for that, I bought one . It is very well explained and easy to apply. Basically clean the caliper, make sure all dust, grease and grime is gone. You mix the paint and hardener and apply. It dries in 4 hours and the instructions say one should refrain from driving for 24 hours to allow paint to attain it's maximum hardness. Slap wheels back on car and step back to admire...

I used rust-oleum.... I brushed it on... it took about 3 layers, but not very difficult... I degreased with purple power (or purple stuff, or simple green) I have the GS calipers, so I used a silver paint marker to paint the CORVETTE letters. So far it has held up very well, and the whole project cost me about 5 bucks.

-The problem with the spray paint is it gets everywhere (including the paint on the car... spray paint travels through the air for long distances)
