Finally, I am in the the middle of painting my 61 Vette. So far I have done both doors, hood, deck lid, trunk lid & the headlight covers. Overall I am very happy with the results. I have a few minor dimples here and there, (not sure if I can wet sand them or not) and a few dust nibs here and there. The orange peel seems minimal. I am using single stage urethane Nason Ful-thane brand preceded by the recommended sealer coat which seemed to completely hide a few sand scratch marks I had missed. I am going the do the body in 2 sections whch is more manageable for my level of experience. I will break the front & rear at the cove line. Thank you John McGraw, Ray Carney, Paint daddy as well as many others for all the tech support. It really helped raise the quality level of this paint job for me. Got to run. I hear my spray gun calling me :)

Good luck,Go slow, and show us some pictures when you get a chance

Painting 61 Red

Great! Can't wait to see the pictures!

Congrats Studio!

I have been observing the progress on your 61. Maybe now I should have the snail avatar. Over the holidays I'll try to get some pics of my slow progress on my 61.

Glad to hear the paint is going on! You will be surprised how many defects and dust nibs can be color sanded out of single stage. It goes on a lot thicker than lacquer, and you can sand a long time on 2-3 coats of single stage urethane. I have shaved and sanded runs out of it many times, without having to touch it up afterward.

Regards, John McGraw

IH2LOSE: Larry I'm the wrong guy to tell to go slow :L But your right, with paint, taking your time seems to pay off.
Ray: I hope to post some pics as soon as I'm done.
Paintdaddy: I know your kidding about the fumes but I was suprised that I could hardly smell the vapors till I took off the respirator.
Larry Sherm: Would love to see pics of your progress.
John McGraw: The urethane does seem to go on thick compared to lacquer. Glad to hear I have some color sanding latitude to remove imperfections.

Glad to hear all is gong well with the painting. Can't wait to see pictures.
