Is there any way to check a remote key fob? Just bought a '96 LT4 and the remote does not work. The PKE light does not come on so I assume it is turned off. But I think the remote is still supposed to open/close the passenger door and hatch lid. Don't want to spend $150 unless I'm sure this one is bad.

I'm sure you checked the battery in the FOB. The fob will open the pass/door & hatch (only) when the system is off. When the PKE is functioning normally & is active you can program the system to open the doors on a selective basis.

System is turned "on" & "off" by holding down the door button until you hear the door locks cycle.

The only time you will see the PKE illuminated , in the lower left of the DIC, is when the ignition is turned "on" initially & the system is active. Otherwise no bulb check as such.

There is a method to check the PKE functions by using the cars on-board computer. Are you familiar with pulling trouble codes via the date line connector?

double check the battery....batteries plus re-installed new ones......they worked fine 4me.....mine lasted from 96' til this june.....

You can also get a replacement battery at Kroger, I think the battery size is 2450. The battery only lasts me a little over a year before I am getting a new one. Battery life depends on use and how often the remote is moved. The remote automatically turns on and transmitts signals until a set time after it no longer detects motion.
