Removeal of slight surface rust on steel parts

We I just recived my replacement driveshaft,I am waiting on my replacement half shaft's.The drive shaft has the slightest surface rust(as if some one with a sweaty hand had put it in the box for shipping) I can actually see there finger prints.

I know there was a spray solution that I can wipe on and wipe off but I dont remember what it was.I treid my gun sheith but it did not do it,Any suggestions? I dont want to bead blast,sand,nothing to change the texture of the steel.Once it rust free I plan on clearing the part to avoid future rust.I cant wait to complete project and show some pictures.Today I will be in the garage clearing my parts and hopefully installing my new gas tank.

I would think Metal Prep (any bodyshop supply store has it) should take off the light rust... try applying with a rag first, but you may need to use very fine steel wool to make it work properly.

But, then you need to clean thoroughly using a good pre-paint metal cleaner and you'll need to apply paint (or a satin clear coat or something similar to retain the bare metal look, if that's what you want).

Try rust remover.....like the one that ICI produces......just looks like Flubber !

Thanks for the input.I was able to clean up my new driveshaft with 00 steel wool and my gun sheith it cleaned up nice and I cleared it NO PROBLEMS.
so now i get out my new (sept of 2002 )front calipers to clear them and get them ready to go on and guess what one side has some rust on it.I go to the hardware store and purchase naval jelly to remove the rust (and it did) and it said to rince with clean water.I treid to wipe off the naval jelly with a rag and it just would not come off. So against my better judgement I rinced it with water and blew it dry with compressed air.Now the entire caliper is covered with slight brown rust. Now what? (you dont have to answer Ill figure it out) When ever you feel or think not to do something DONT DO IT your first thought are useally correct.

Ill keep you posted once I figure out what I am going to do

I know what you are fighting. It's hard to keep rust off of bare iron or steel until you are ready to clear coat it. Keeping it lightly coated with oil is about the only sure way. You need to very thoroughly wash it with Prep Sol or equivilant before painting to get off all of the oil.

I keep a dehumidifier in my shop to keep down moisture levels. Works real well and makes it a lot nicer to work in there. I don't open the big door unless absolutely necessary and I don't leave the walk in door open any longer than to get in or out. Almost feels like A/C when I go in there. The air is definately dry.

Thanks tom I have got to get off my butt and file for my permit. for my garage I definatly will air condtion and dehumidify it
Tonight I threw them in the bead blaster and cleaned off the rust,I should had done that in the first place.my steel drive shaft I could not because i wanted to maintain that fresh new steel look but I should have thrown the caliper in the cabinet in the first place,there all cleaned and clear coated.I just wish I could find a flatter looking high heat clear the one I used on the calipers was a high heat clear and it has a shine to it.But the shine looks much better then the rust or the spray gray available
