thanks for the help

aw man those links are perfect, thats just what i needed :_rock

I just replaced the rear sections of carpet on my 86, I also bought mine from TLD, great people to deal with. You need to remove all the plastic trim, including the rear deck trim, and the peices that attach to the deck trim, left and right and the plastic trim that goes over the brackets for the roof storage. You will also need to remove the hardware for the storage compartments. I pulled the old carpet out and laid it over the new as you will have to trim the new carpet to fit. Under the deck trim there are two studs that hold the carpet down and you will need to mark and poke holes thru the new carpet. The same goes for the side carpets, you will have to notch holes for the roof storage brackets and the speaker holes. The floor section will also need to be fitted for the storage compartment locks. The peice that goes over the hump, just behind the seats will need to be trimmed also. I did not need to remove the seats for the peice behind the seats but if you are doing the whole car you will be taking them out anyway. For the front you will need spray adhesive to reattach the dash and door carpets. You will also need to remove a fair amount of plastic trim including door sills, center console and e-brake cover. The rear took me about 3 hours to do and was not hard, the front would probably take a fair amount longer.

thanks dave,
i began removing consoles, e-brake, etc... i also removed the seats, im working from the front to the back and the front is almost ready for me to rip the carpets out. What was your experience with the spray, what did you use and how well did it work? thanks bro, :bu

I just finished changing my coupe interior from red to black, including new carpets. It took me about a week, working off-and-on. I found the hardest part to be the door sills, I just couldn't get them to line up properly. The rear is a real bear, especially doing the cut-outs for the roof holders. It doesn't look like it will fit, so you push and push and just when your arms are ready to fall off they slip into place. The easiest part is the front floor, they just plop in without adhesive and you cut holes for the seat bolts. I didn't use any adhesive on the console sides, the knee bolsters, or the door panels, you know why? Apparently on my car GM decided to use the stickiest substance known to mankind, and it was impossible to remove. It was so sticky that I just put my new carpet pieces on and voila they stuck like magic. I have a feeling that glue will still be sticky for a loooooooooooong time.

Anyway, have fun!

As I only did my rear set I did not need any adhesive, but I have used 3M spray before and it works good. I would imagine TLD must carry some. Good luck!

Dave
