Removing water pump '96

I need some info on getting this water pump off the engine. I took the 4 bolts out but it's stuck solid. I have a manual and it says 'remove from engine'. How? Do I need a bigger hammer?

no hammer !!!

WP has 6 bolts 4 long 2 short . the short one are not visible at first ...
its AL part hammer is harmful!

Where are the short ones? The FSM doesn't go there....

this is the water pump gasket yousee the 3 holes for bolts. the two un and down for the long bolts. the one is for short bolt ( its behinde the accessories bracket (driver side), passenger side is again hidden bottom of coil and ign module.

Wow how kind of you. I found the one on the passenger side. Now the short one on the drivers side. Still looking. Thanks very much. I hop it's not the one under the coil wire.

the one in the driver side a little PITA. Maybe you may need to remove some parts in order to acess or some swivel sockets works for you.

Oh yes its under the coil wire ( opti end of wire) ...

Actually the last small bolt lies behind two vacuum lines that are not willing to move over much. A 14 small socket on a 6" extension removed that bastid.

Thank goodness you told me about 6 screws. The FSM doesn't elaborate.

Once again Corvette People are the greatest and I'll use the $600 the guy wanted fopr labor and rip charge on parts to good use... wine and women. I'll waste the rest!!!!!!!!!!

Now to get a new one and heater hoses too while I'm there. I should do the opti but it ain't broke.

Im glad it worked for you

Two vacum hoses you mentioned are opti went hoses

Be careful while changing heater hoses, keep the opti dry

Yes it very interesting. Internet is a great thing. I have learned a lot while restoring my 74 Z28 camaro and 87 Iroc Z28... also gathering parts is easy with internet and e bay

While you are in there be sure the Optispark is in good shape. If you have any doubt or the car has 50-60K now is the time to replace it or you get to remove the water pump again.

It runs perfectly, and I don't want to wrestle the big pully right now. Don't have the cash for the opti switch.
I got the AC DELCO 251 series waterpump from Partsladi on ebay. The 252 model is the same price around here. Don't know thw difference but I stay factory on these things.

Don't worry about the OPTI the 95-96 OPTIs are robust and usually last a long time (I have a 160,000 mile opti on my 95 Impala SS

I'm pleased to report a successful transplant. I also installed two new upper and lower radiator hoses along with the new water pump. It came with a new thermostat as well.
I switched out the thermostat with my Hypertech used one. It didn't like it as it leaked like crazy upon start-up so I put the GM in. Guess the seal had a pinch. Never leaked a drop before. Took 3 gallons of antifreeze and a Water Wetter. It actually runs a few degrees warmer but still at or below 190* cruising.

The job cost $207 for the wp(top of the line ACDELCO) $70 for hoses and $40 for fluids. That's a considerable savings from the $800 quoted. The opportunity to clean the front of the engine took hours but it's nice and pretty under there now. I'll not hesitate to do the opti when it dies, hopefully many moons from now.

Now if my back and hammies would stop barking from leaning over the sides....
