I replaced my '69 front shocks a few weekends ago-- no problem. Started on the back and saw the frame bracket that holds the top of the rear shock was bad. The bracket bolt hole had broken through the bottom, so the shock was not really properly secured. This weekend I will attempt to cut/grind off the bracket and then weld on a new bracket I purchased. I haven't looked at the passenger side, but I'm planning on doing both sides. It's going to be a pain, but I'll feel better knowing this has been fixed. I was surprised that I could even buy a replacement bracket, so maybe it's a common problem. I think I'll have to try to weld the far bracket side (towards the middle of the car) from the inside of the bracket-- can't get to the outside seam with the body on the frame. I should be able to weld the other two sides no problem. Just curious if anyone else has done this and if they have any tips or lessons learned. Thanks.
