What is the easiest method at getting at the egr valve on a '87 L98 Corvette to replace it, ie what parts do I have to take off to get at it?
The SM doesn't do a very good job of details in R & R. Thanks

Easy...

remove upper runner bolts, remove the TB and d/c the 3 throttle/trans control cables. Set duct & MAF somewhere safe. Take TB to workbench for cleaning.

Lift Plenum out when all bolts are out. Remove the brake booster vav line at rear corner of plenum. Watch for the MAT sensor in the plenum underside. Good time to move that to the air intake up front.

Once plenum and assy lines are gone, EGR sits in the middle of the hole.

Takes 2 bolts, odd size. Will need offset wrench.
Have full can of spray carb cleaner and a small bottle brush to douche out the EGR passage. Clean port as good as you can,. Apply Never Sieze product to egr gasket and egr bottom that fits in the mount.
Start to re-assemble. Use NEW vac line to the EGR over to the EGR solenoid. Mount that solenoid outside the plenum, behind the air-pump where everything can be accessed.
I apply a good coating of Never Sieze to ALL paper/composite gaskets. This helps them seal, they will not stick so you are not scraping and they can be used again with a lite smear of grease or never seize for a 2nd time.

Before pulling the old EGR or burying the new one, use a vac pump/gauge to make sure its working as it should,.

Good luck.
I have never removed a original TPI plenum purely by undoing the bolts. The runners clamp the plenum in place notwithstanding the old gaskets bond to the parts acting like a glue.
Usually need a tap with soft hammer to crack loose ;in some cases have both top and bottom runner bolts out and had to use a bar through the TB opening break free

True...my first time was so long ago that I'd forgotten how or why my current process came to be. For a virgin plenum, having a new set of gaskets would be a good idea since the originals will get beat up. Its so easy with "prepared" gaskets now, I can have my plenum out in 30 minutes. Again, thats mostly because nothing is stuck and I have eliminated all the "stuff" that was mounted on or under the plenum and relocated it where it was not in the way of intake or inj service.
