I have an 1981 and was told that I have to take the body off the frame to replace the fuel lines.

Is that true? I can see them running in the inside of the frame, but was told that they sit on top of the frame in the back towards the gas tank.

Any words of advise on tackling this project.

Thanks,

mt

Fuel lines

On my car they run on top of the frame rail on the passenger side. I'm not sure if you have to remove the body but it sure would be easier. Are your metal lines damaged or corroded? Mine are fine, I just replaced the rubber "S" hoses from the frame to the carb.

Good luck!

They are getting corroded and a mechanic mentioned that it would be a good idea to replace them.

They deal strictly with Corvettes and he told me it would cost about $2500.

It doesn't look like it would be that bad of a job to replace them. That is when he told me that they have to take the body off the frame.

Thanks for the reply.

I replaced all my brake lines and did not take the body off the frame.

I did not do the fuel lines though...

Getting to some of the clips that hold the brake lines took some doing, but was able to get them off and new ones installed. You will need to have the car up a good foot though to allow room to positon and twist, turn the line from front to back to get it into place. This is the hardest one. The others are quite easy.

Good luck,

Lanny

Lanny,

Thanks for the information. I think I will make it a winter job and start with the brake lines first, then tackle the fuel lines.
