Reprogramming computer

This question is mainly directed to c4c5specialist but welcome any good experiences or horror stories. What are your thoughts on reprogramming the stock computer for better performance? I have heard that some want to remove the computer and send it elsewhere and some that put it on a dyno and reprogram on the spot. Which is better? Would you recommend it for a power hungry enthusiast?

HI there,
While power is a good thing, reprogramming the stock computer, without some serious modifications, is not worth it.
This is due to the fact, that GM programs are regularly updated, to assist in correct drivability of the vehicle.
So, if you obtain an aftermarket program, you will never be able to utilize this updated programs when they are released.
If you do a heads and camshaft, then an aftermarket program is a necessity to get all the power that you can out of your mods.

My modifications at this point are; Donaldson Blackwing intake filter, carbon fiber power duct, coolant bypass on throttle body (It doesn't get cold here in San Diego.), Corsa Pace Car exhaust system including X pipe, MSD 8 mm plug wires, and Beru spark plugs. I would not consider that major modifications so I will stick to the GM updates. With that being said, where do I go to find out if the computer on my 99 needs updating? Thanks again for the help!

Your local dealership will be able to check your car in 15 mins, as to if you need an updated program. The actual programming takes about 1 hour.
I charge 1 hour for a complete program update.
