Took my stock '96 LT1 and had the following perf mods done to it:

TPIS ZZ409 Roller cam with 1.5 roller rockers
Port and polish intake and heads
Modify heads to accept larger int & exh valves
BW 2600 stall converter
TPIS 52mm Throttle body
TPIS plated longtube headers
3.54 heavy duty gears (kept Dana 36 rear end; prob a mistake)
Replaced stock cats with Hi flo cats
Corsa SS exhaust system
Fuel pressure regulator
160° Thermostat
K&N open lid filter
LT4 Knock Sensor

Before the mods, my 1/4 mile time at a track in Bowling Green, Ky

14.157 @ 100.90mph

Here are the results of 3 runs I got in at a track in Xenia Ohio

13.346 @ 103.34mph
13.290 @ 104.93mph
12.970 @ 106.10mph

On street tires 26lbs press.

What one thing could anyone suggest I do, to get a little deeper into the 12's?

what 60'
you should use 1.6rr, or if youre using tough springs, maybe 1.7

drag radials and you'll be around 12.7's easily.

Be sure to burn out a little to clean the tires before running...

Yes, DR's would help a lot. I bet your 60 ft time is 2.1-2.3.

To Vader and Southpaw, the 60' times when stock were, 2.199 to 2.285

After the mods the 60' dropped to 2.044 2.054 2.010 in that order.

I am kinda skittish about using drag radials with this D36 rear end. I figure as long as I'm getting some spin out of the hole, I'm not stressing that lightweight rear too badly.

I'll get that changed after it turns nasty cold around here and I can't get out and drive it anymore.

So the concensus is better launch and I am in the mid 12's, is that right?

I read where some aftermarket heads would greatly improve my acceleration and E/T's. If you'all agree, is there any particular recommendation as to brand, and where to obtain them.....and (I know I'm gonna hate this).....about how much $$ ? Keep in mind, I've already had the stock LT1 heads opened up some with the larger valves.

I was advised NOT to use 1.6 RR's with this ZZ409 cam as the configuration is such that it has the same lift that the Hotcam would have with the 1.6RR's.

Karl,
So now you are drag racing it?
tony

Had to at least find out what if could do, ya know? No, I don't intend to be drag racing the vette.....it's just gonna be a street car.

I just wanted it to at least be able to "keep up with traffic", heh, heh, heh.

Mark,

What programming do you have? You need a good program to control that cam.

Honestly, I think you should have better ET's with all those mods and that 60'ft time. I just drag raced corvettes all day Sunday, and an automatic with gears and stall converter alone could do low 13's, with drag radials.

My 6spd with 3.45 gears, ported LT1 heads, comp cam (214/224@050 and .566 lift w/1.6rr's) and STOCK exhaust has run 12.95 in the 1/4 and averages 13.1-13.2. You should be faster.

How much lift is that cam? 1.6rr's might have been ok. My cam has more lift than the hotcam, and I run 1.6's.

TPIS did the programming. They were the suppliers of the cam. Duration is 226 @.050and lift is .520. I was told that with 1.6 RR's, the overall effect would sacrifice much of the streetability of the vette, however, it would make it a better 1/4 mile car. I elected to stick with the 1.5 roller rockers, since I intend to drive the vette and not necessarily race it (unless the opportunity presents itself) <wink, wink>.

It doesn't seem to launch as well as I had anticipated, but pulls strong to 6k (and probably well beyond) but since I left the bottom end stock, I didn't want to risk having the LT1 self-destruct on me.

I agree, that it should be running in the mid 12's at least. Seeings that I managed a 12.9 on street tires tells me that is definitely within my grasp. I finally found a full range dyno shop about 3 hours from me that I am taking the vette to next week. That should tell me where I'm at as far as RWHP and the air/fuel ratios. The programming will be adjusted as needed. Then it will be back to the strip for a "recheck".

I'll keep y'all updated as to the results.

I agree with Mad-Mic and Sothpaw that DRs will help lots. I have a 96 LT1 with 315 Nittos. They are great. No tire slip if you nail it from about a 1000 rpm. The drive train is loaded up and you don't get sudden lockup as you would with 275s (I did.) I have a 259D36 with a 375 waiting for colder weather installation. I have heard that D36 is horsepower sensitive, but I'd sure not shock load it. That is why it is okay for automatics and not sticks.

My latest venture was at All Corvette Day at Capitol Raceway. Mic and Rich were there. My best run was:
1.099 (I was asleep, almost; my next run was a 0.504)
1.996
0.000
8.866
81.95
11.476
13.675
105.870
The vehicle has an open K&N, TB airfoil, LT4 knock module, TB coolant by-pass, 160 thermo, Hypertech power tune, and the Nittos, 113K miles and otherwise completely stock. The DRs were good for about 0.15 reduction on 60' compared to 275 GSCs, which were dangerous.

Had the vette dynoed the other day, and it shows 390 at the crank, 310 at the rear wheels and torque at 300 even. A/F ratio was good but slightly lean up to 4k and slightly rich above 5k. The motor was run up to 6100 rpm and the HP was still climbing strong, but I told the dyno man to keep it under 6k due to the stock bottom end.

Going to send the computer off to TPIS for some adjustments as there was a sharp drop-off in torque at 3500 rpm. Something about the factory program in the OBDII is notorious for doing. And to have the tranny pressures turned up a tad, as well as some minor fine tuning to the A/F mixture.

According to my time slips, this factors out about right. If I expect to get much deeper into the twelves, I need to pick up some 30 or so extra ponies somewhere. Anyone got some ideas on how to accomplish that?
