I read the thread about cleaning injectors and even got some Redline to use, but now I see in one of the Service Bulletins in the Knowledgebase/Tech Center that GM says it's a no-no on Multech Injectors. Should I or should I not? Inquiring minds want to know. :confused

You'll probably get different opinions on this Gordon, but what it will boil down to is that you've read what GM says, and it will be your judgement call in the end. ;)

Once again I know you're right, but it will be interesting to hear the pros and cons. It seemed everyone was for it in the other thread and if it will help to smooth out my idle then I'll go for it. That is as long as it does no harm.
Thanks for burning the midnight oil with me.

I used to say that I had the "night shift" at the :CAC, being on the west coast and all I'd be up while the easterners would be sleeping. :L

I lost ALL my referance materials when I crashed my hard drive recently, but I thought that the advisory from GM was for the later "self cleaning " injectors. Seems to me like it was "89" or "91" or so :Steer

I too use Techron in all my vehicles, and have for years with nothing but terrific results. A bottle in the tank at every oil change or whenever leaving on a long trip whichever comes first. Best stuff I've found for keeping the fuel system cleaned out! :Steer

Thanks, all youse guys........I'm goin' for it 'cause I've heard no bad news, including from my mechanic. Probably another GM marketing ploy. :Steer

Supposedly the late model multi-tech injectors won't need cleaning (that's the party line from the service bulletin). What they don't want people doing is using the real strong stuff, it can take the insulation off the injector coil wire.
About anything you put in the tank by the instructions won't hurt anything unless you use it constantly. I have used both Techtron and Red-line with good results. I believe Red-line cured a leaker in my 200K 87 with orginal injectors.
I'm sure someone knows when they started with multi-tech injectors. 87's and earlier don't have them for sure.

Dan, you're wasting your money. You should not need to add a cleaner at those intervals; all gasoline has additives in it when it leaves the terminals.

The exception would be if you were in doubt as to quality of the gasoline you use (or were forced to use). ;)

Save your money and simply buy the best gasoline you can.

By the way, Chevron's Techcron is the best stuff going, not that I'm biased or anything by having worked at the refinery for twenty years. :L

Thanks Ken. I try to run only 94 octane Sunoco in the Corvette. Can't say it's making any difference but the owner at the station I frequent says it has all the additives needed. A year ago, I put all new injectors in and am scared of future problems, if you know what I mean. I will say that I can tell a difference in my other vehicles after I run the Techron. Of course I run 87 octane in those and put alot more miles on my daily drivers. Do you think the lack of driving the Vette plays any role? I appreciate your help, thanks.:)
