I can never win. I got new tires, paid for them through my *** and i got home to check them out further and clean off the tires, and found my rims to be ALL gouged up, and scrapes on the outer area next to the tire. I guess to pry the tires out they must have used big metal bars or something. And on my front rim driver side, this gouge near the tire edge that runs about 1/3 the way arround the rim. The scratches and dents are nice and shiney, so it appears these just happened.

My rims are the alloy GS costing $400+++ each! They are old and a little beat up, but i know it was not this bad as i had just cleaned everything monday.

I plan to get pics tomorrow.

I also plan to going to the Goodyear place and see what the explaination is!

Has anyone else run into this? What evidence do I have to prove it wasnt damaged before? This is much, much worse than minor damage touching a curb, which i RARELY park on any streets.

I don't really have a good idea, just see the manager/owner & stay calm. It "usually" works out better that way. Maybe an insurance claim?

This is why I watch the guys at tire & lube places like a hawk while they work. Sad to say they are not trained very well (at all?) to work on the expensive vehicles that we entrust them with.

Sorry I don't have any advice for you after the damage has been done. I purchased a set of Firehawks from Tire Rack and had them delivered to my house. I then searched the town for a shop with a "Touchless" tire system. Luckily I found the local Chevy dealer had just installed one that cost him $10K. And he was very proud of it. After they did the job, I looked my tires/wheels over closely before driving away. Not a scratch on the wheels. I wouldn't trust my wheels to any other system. Good luck. I hope you get satisfaction from the shop. I think he should have told you if he couldn't do the job without damaging your wheels.

Thanks for the advice. I am contemplating some new tires and will research for a local shop as well... never heard of the system before. :beer

I found a non-chain custom wheel shop a few towns over and have had good success with them. I think that this kind of place has better trained and more careful staff if they want to stay in business very long.

:mad Sorry to here you have a problem with Good Year It's not!
Try this good year story 315/17 nitto drag radials, they only go on one way the direction the arrows points on the tires ,I put in white marker which tire goes on what side and they still put them on back wards,They then put the pound on weights on the wheel, and I had to tell them stick weights go on mag wheels,It's been against the law since the 1970s to install used or pound on weights on mag wheels .I hope you win this one, good luck!!!:w

I had the very same problem with my local Goodyear dealer. He said he was runflat qualified by Goodyear which turned out not to be true. The repairs on my Fikse wheels cost him $1600.00 to repair, not including the shipping charges back to Fikse which he also paid. If anyone is having tires changed, do make sure they have the so called touchless machine or you will have the rims scarred and dented. Before you let anyone touch your wheels, look at the equipment they are using and ask if their workers have replaced runflats in the past. You cannot do enough research on a tire
dealer before letting them hack on your wheels. Also see if they use nylon coated lug
wrenches so the inside of the holes for the studs don't get scratched. Be aware.

My experience has taught me to ask members of the local Vette club for recommendations for tire changers and other work on the car. I have not had a bad experience since using this strategy.

I went to a local shop I thought I trusted and asked them to be very careful. My wheels are in good shape with just a few tool marks on the edges of the rims. They ignored my request and now I have double the tool marks.

Very dissappointing. Not sure what to do now. I was planning to buy my tires there soon. I might hold that over their heads if they want my business.
