Hey folks, quick question for ya:

Will the later model rims fit/work on a C3, specifically a 73?
I have a feeling that the offset on new model (C4/C5) rims are too much for the older suspension, but need to know one way or another!

Thanks,
Paul

They will work with spacers. As you said, the off-set is very different. So needs the spacers to get them in the correct position. Now I am talking about the 16" wheels used 84-87. The later 17" wheels have even more offset and is too much to attempt to use spacers safely. In fact the 84-87 need spacers themselves to run the 17's.

Thanks Tom! I don't think I trust spacers very much, are they really safe enough to run pretty hard? (not "autocrossing" hard, but "aggressive street" hard!)

I would love to put some more modern rubber under mine, but kinda would like to stick to factory stuff, later year model things acceptable to me!

Oh, well, looks like it will be Cragar's!

Thanks again,
Paul

Dude, Cragars are some of the hottest wheels I've ever seen!! I agree with you, I wouldn't go with spacers. A lot of people use them, but they are dangerous. I read that insurance companies pretty much scared all spacer companies out of business (besides a couple, of course) because of the liability they pose.

Good luck and have fun! :D

Maybe somebody could PhotoShop a black '73 convertible with SS 16's or 17's all around? (hint, hint!)
I'm planning on putting 255's on her, just don't know what aspect until I know whether or not the 16's or 17's will look best!

It'll be awhile though. Right now, there are AR Cragar copies (complete with peeling chrome!) 15X7 up front, 15X9 in back with 235's front and 275's in back. I don't like the look personally, so I'll be trading up!

Later doods!
Paul

there are sapcers sold thru the catalogs to use some later model vette wheels. see eckler's or mid-america
