Today I test drove a 2001 Zo6 for the first time. It was much quicker than I thought it would be. :crazy I am hooked big time. It was quite an experience. If driving a Zo6 won't put a big smile on your face I do not think anything with four wheels will :_rock Two questions.

Question One: Is $31,500 a fair price for a 2001 z06 with 20,000 miles? It has two pea sized stone chips on the front. It has not been pampered but looks pretty good inside and out. Tires are about gone. I ran great and reved quickly to 5500 rpm in the first three gears.

Second question: The gears seemed to have a strange sound until it warmed up. Is that normal?

Thanks for any help or tips,

:m

HI there,
First, noises on Z are common, but I would really have an unbiased source look at your car, before you purchase it.
They should really look hard at the car, to determine if it was worth the money, and what other problems may be there but are not seen.

Check th Carfax and have a Chevy Service Dept. check the repair/warranty history. They may not show it to you but they may at least tell you if there is anything big going on with it. The 2001 Z06 was the 385 horse LS6 not the 405hp so you can get a pretty good deal on them. The price seems right (right now) according to www.kbb.com and www.nada.com but they tend to be optimistic. Is it from a dealer or private? Extended warranty or no? You can really sqeeze the sellers now because there are pleanty of Corvettes availible. I'll bet with the chips and tire wear you could get it for 30K even or if it's a dealer have them throw in the GM extended warranty. The tires are over $1000.00. That's at the discount price.

Blue and C4C5 both have excellent advice. OE tires are very expensive, although you could get some cheap (Khumo) tires that will still perform adequately. If you make the dealer put on tires, make them put on OE (Goodyear F1 Supercar) tires.

As for price, you don't say where you are located, but 31,500 seems high. As an asking price, maybe that's OK if you can get it for less, but for the miles and bald tires, it seems a little rich.

Definately get the car inspected, but note that transmission noise (including the clutch death rattle when you first let it out) is normal for C5 and Z06.

I have a '01 Z06 myself, and it is a fun car. I'm tempted to offer it for sale to you, but I don't know what I'd possibly replace it with, other than another one.
