Napa, Thanks for the info and advice. It turns out we have a Valentine, so I will keep it turned on at least approaching any city limits. And the Mountain passes. I guess they don't help much for animals, which I hadn't thought about. That would definitely ruin my day. And the warning about tire pressure is appreciated. This is my first car with pressure indicators, and I have a guage in the glove box for good measure. Depending on the time of day by Ely, we may opt to stay there for the night. If so, I'll be looking for the Copper Queen.
Like I said, don't know much of anything between Ely and Delta. So if you don't stay in Ely don't count on staying anywhere until you get to Delta. There just isn't anything there and I don't recall seeing much of anything in Delta either - maybe Super 8's, Motel 6 types.
Keep the Valentine on at all times. You never know if that sagebrush in the distance is hiding a radar gun. You'll probably not see much wildlife in the flats since there is not much in the way of green cover. In the passes with trees and green stuff is where I would be wary of deer and other four legged animals - also, remember if there is one deer, there tends to be others.
Have fun and keep the shiny side up.
