It's best to do what you understand........Bob

WOW!!!! No truer words were ever spoken... or typed in respect to working on and around cars and trucks. Between the dangers involved, and the ease in which one can ruin expen$ive parts and components, that should be the by-word of the day.
How many times have we all seen, or had friends come up and ask, what went wrong with this, as they hold out a double handful of bent and broken parts. What can you say... I feel your pain...... ouch, that's gonna be expensive to replace.... how did you manage that?...... I told ya not to do it that way....

Famous last words: I know what I'm doing, I've rebuilt this engine every weekend.... but still can't find the problem

Just to give everyone a little prespective, back in the mid 80s to mid 90s, I use to build BB Chevy engines for several 1/4 mile drag racing teams in the Chicago area. None were bigger than 482 CID and all but one ran a single carb, albiet all had a Dominator. The tunnel ram job ran twin Chuck Nuyten 750s.

They all ran mid 8's when the Pro Stock guys were running mid to low 7's. True, these were all full chassis cars with lots of fiberglass and lexan windows, but they were quick, consistent and competitive. I drove a the roadster with the tunnel ram; mid 8's in the 170s MPH.

So I've turned a wrench or two in my day. Many times, I found that what I thought was best wasn't BEST. One can always learn new and better ways of doing things. Close your mind to that and progress grinds to a halt.

The advice I give is based on what I know to work. I'd usually go to the track with the guys and between rounds when I would always "go thru the valves" it was important to be able to do it right, but also to do it quickly.

As I's said before, though, to each his own. I only offer advice; I don't try to change minds.
