Hey guys, I want to put roller rockers on my 454 which requires the tall valve covers. I know the clearance will be tight, but I wonder if they will fit? Have any of you done this to your car, and if so, what did it take to do it? Thanks in advance for any help!!

To be frank with you the horsepower value of roller rockers are not worth the cost and trouble. You have already found that clearance is one major problem. Others are the silly way they are locked down. However by thick double overhead gaskets {valve cover} you may get some height back to allow you to use your original valve covers. I believe Felpro still has those in their performance section.

My experience is different. I have a '66 with a zz440. I added the rr's basically because I had a set left over from the lunched 427. After the installation, the improvement in the low end was definitely noticeable. I never really put my foot into it for long so I have no idea what the top end does. Again, this is purely subjective.

I also had a set of tall valve covers laying around. Knowing what I know now, I would add them even if I had to pay list price. I got the valve covers at Carlisle for $100 new.
