Anyone using Royal Purple in the LS1? PROs and CONS? Is it worth the .50 more per quart than the Mobil 1 5W/30. Getting close to doing an oil change on my C5 and just curious.

I used Royal Purple in my LS1.It is big$$$Did I notice a change-no.The oil appeared thiner than Mobil 1.I'm just going to use Mobil 1 and be done with it their is no real reason to try different brands-for what reason?Just keep it full and clean.:thumb

I kinda of consider it a waste of money .But in my case I don't drive very hard and I believe thats the case for the majority of owners.I've never had an engine fail because of lubrication using Mobil 1.

But if it makes a person feel really good ,why not :D

I agree vette boy!Just use Mobil1 and be done. Two BIG corvette debates-oil brands and wax brands go figure.:cool

Be it Mobil 1, Royal Purple or other synthetic oil, you are better over the long haul to use a 10W30 rather than a 5W30.

OK I may be setting myself up, but isn't 5W30 recommended by GM? Would you mind explaining the 10W30?

Thanks

Thanks for all the input on this subject. I will go with the Mobil 1, and will take into consideration the 10W30 over the 5W30 for the longevity issues.

Royal Purple 5/20

A local major auto chain advised me that 5/20 was best for the heat of Phoenix. I am beginning to doubt this. Any thoughts?

I don't think I'd do 5w20 in Arizona......10w30 would be a better choice I think.

DO NOT use a 5W20 in an LS1...especially in very hot weather.

My choice in oil is Gibbs Driven LS30 5W30. It's a premium synthetic and a step above Mobil 1.
