Rubber In All Four Gears

I have a question here

why is it these other fellow are not able to spin 4th gear. Is it because they have real high highway gears.Or is the way theyre shifting the car.The best way to descripe how I do it if right foot to the floor and side stepping the clutch pedal.

My old neighbors freind taught me how to do this he actually used to remove the rubber pad from the clutch peddle so his foot would slide off.

Lou - let's hope you don't experience the same same results this year at Carlisle as last year.

I not only "chirp" 4th, I can do it at about 40 MPH. At a full throttle powershift, 8,000 RPM's, 3rd to 4th, I break them loose. I have a Centerforce dual friction 11" clutch with a 4:11 posi and a close ratio Richmond Gear Super T10. Just to make a point in Auburn, I broke them loose for about 10 feet or more from a dead stop in 3rd. I find it hard to believe this thread is even here. Remember, "Drive It Like You Stole It", it'll talk to you. If by chance you don't believe me, talk to Len, Tammy, or just meet me in Carlisle in August:L ;LOL :bu

I own a 66 427/425 convertable, presently it has 411's with the timing retarded to run on sunoco 94 gas,it has no problem chirping all 4 gears and as a matter of fact it will tear the tires off the rims in any gear.( I have modern reproduction yellow line radials on it) I am not sure of the torque difference between the motors but with only a 60 hp difference I would think it is possible.

Presently I have a MSD ignition system in the car with a rev limiter in it.I have the chip set at 5300 rpm and when power shifting the car I just bounce it off the rev limiter. So allthought this is not the peak rpm range for the highest hp for the motor it may be the peek torque and why the car fry's the tires so easely.
IH2LOSE- Have you thought of using toluene to raise your octane enough to run optimum timing? I hate to see you retarding the timing to run on 94 octane when you can mix toluene into 93 octane and raise it 5-7 points.

It is possible I would think with 4.11's but thats just me

My 63 rountinely "got rubber" in all four gears leaving from our local drive-in back in 63. In fact, I think most of the cars running around then (GTO's, 409's) would do it. Of course, everyone "drove'em like they stole them" back then. They were purchased for FUN FUN FUN, and most of the time they were our everyday cars, driven in all kinds of weather. Parking them meant having a coke at the drive-in, sitting in line waiting to drag, or other certain night-time adventures. :)

Ol Blue, still owned, but cared for a little better these days. Last drag raced at the 1'st anniversary of the NCM, turned 13.7 at 104 shifting at 4700rpm due to a miss beyond that. Oh, only parking is in the garage these days. :(

Rowdy,

I don't know you, or your car. Please tell me a little bit about your '62. I should have said from the get go, that this feller was talking about a bone STOCK Corvette.
Anyways, if your motor is stock, please tell me who built your engine, because @ 8 grand, you are really pushing it. And it still holds together!
This thread is here because it's fun.

I meant no harm by my comment, if any was caused, I apologize. I realize this is a fun thread, my 62 is FUN!!!:bu Remo, "Ses La Vue" or in other words, what will be will be, or is it "K Sara Sara";LOL
My engine is NOT stock which may be the reason I can pull the higher RPMS. However, even with the old engine, cruising along in 4th at 2500 to 3,000 RPMS, if I push the clutch in and bring the R's up to 4,000 or more and just let the clutch out quick, NOT side stepping it, it still would chirp.
Bossvette, thanks for the video, the first part is 3rd gear, then 1st, the results speak for themselves.

Rowdy,

No offense taken! The point was, as I said, to find out which STOCK Vettes could break loose in all 4 gears. I only have so far had the guts to powershift my slightly tweaked, stock L76 at 7 grand. I wish to hell I knew how you can shift at 8 grand. Anyway Che sera, sera...c'est la vie.

Pull the shift lever hard and have a rev limiter incase you miss ;LOL

That's Part Of It

As I said, the engine is worked, solid lifters help too;)

I would say it`s probably forseeable that anyone with a properly tuned high HP Vette with those skinny little OEM 670X15 tires with about 3 inches of tread on the ground could get rubber in any gear. But with a set of modern wider sticky tires it may substancially reduce this characteristic.:D

i hate to say this but i have a 5.0 capri with 411 in it and different heads and all the other bolt on crap

it wil spin 1 -2 -3 and chirp a good 4th
and its carburated!

but sorry for bringing the "F" word here!lol

Matt

if you keep doing thing like that (bringing up the "F" word) we won't allow you in the next mall show!
LOL

BTW, are you going on the boat cruise this Sun?

yes, been to 3 or 4 at Kahunaville this year plus a bunch of others at various places like Pike Creek, Kennett Square, Aston, Media, etc.

I like going to the shows and cruises. lots of nice cars to see and always a lot of nice people to meet and talk to.
A neighbor of mine has a beautiful '67 BB with the 427/435 and we take our cars to a number of the shows together.

There is suppose to be a show on Rt 1 and Rt 100 (at Hanks) on Sat and Kahuna on Sun but i'll probably miss both as my car should be in the paint shop next week and thru the weekend.
