A friend and I looked at a 72 Vette last night that had severe rust completely around the windshield framework. It went all the way down to the top of both doors and undoubtably beyond that. We plan to pass on the car, but I am curious about what it takes to repair something like that, is it worth it, and if a professional had to do the job, what kind of money would that cost?

I have heard of this happening, but have never seen it before. It's a real shame because from what I can tell, this is a pretty serious undertaking and may have rendered this car unuseable.

Well.... needless to say I'm not having any part of that!. Now I know why I heard that this is one of the worst things that can happen to a Vette.

I've just changed my windshield frame, it's a lot of work.
If you have rust in the lover part, you have to remove the front fenders to get access. I made the parts by myself, DON'T do it, by new parts. You will find some pictures of the job I did (and still doing) at my homepage.

Vidar,

I just checked out your website. Very nice!

Too bad we both live so far away from each other....then again, we would be dangerous together. I like a fellow that is not afraid to cut his car up in little pieces!

It is not cutting that is difficult, it is getting it back together again.
Just checked out your 70 conv project, you're not afraid of cutting yourself.
