Well the '69 burn up in the driveway yesterday. I took her out for a ride in morning. Stoped in front of the house, went in for a little bit, look out the back yard and saw A LOT of smoke. Ran out to the car, and.....well it's hard to describe.
Maybe these pictures can say more.

I just read your thread. I agree with John, I did not have ALL steel lines to the carb. That just keep feeding the fire.

So sorry for your loss... :( :(

But fortunate no one was hurt. :)

Zippy :) :)

Oh, man! That's just awful! I'm sure you feel just sick. But the important thing is, nobody was hurt. It might have been a different story if it happened while you were flying down the road at speed. I just hope you were well insured, and that in no time you'll have it back as good as new!

You might be able to help some of us out.

After your drive yesterday... did you leave the car running?
How long were you inside?
Was there any indication that this was going to happen?
Were you able to diagnose the cause?

That is/was a beautiful convertible.
I hope you have a good insurance company.

How did you sleep last night?

So Sorry

What can I say, hang tough.

YES! I never stop the car in the driveway, I always drive it straight into the garage. This day was an exception.

I didn't leave the car running. My guess is that the float stuck and flooded the carb.

10-15 min. before I was the smoke in the backyard.

I can't say if I KNEW something was going to happen.

Insurance.....Monday, We'll see.

NOT a good nights sleep.

Thanks,

You left it running while you went inside for a few minutes and you saw smoke.

Were there any gas fumes or smoke at all during your drive.

I have a strong gas smell and my engine will smoke when I first fire her up.
I know I have a leaky valve cover gasket that pours oil onto the exhaust manifold.
When I get my EDELBROCK performer intake I will do a top end gasket change.

But like I said... I always see C3 engine burns.

SCARY!!!

I am so sorry. Makes me want to cry seeing your Vette like that. Do you think you will try to rebuild it?

Bill

No. I did not leave it running. I shut the car off, no hint's of trouble. I was in the house talking with my wife when I saw the smoke.

Do you think you will try to rebuild it?

That's the BIG question. I don't know if it is possible to restore it back to original without some tell tale signs. This was a complete numbers matching car.
