"salty" deposit on exhaust?

The car is a 2000 dead stock with about 33 kmi. I parked it about a month ago under a tarp in the garage. With todays sunny and 42 temps, I figured a little drive was in order.

My buddy noticed that the two exhaust tips had a kind of "micro-crystaline" residue on the last three or four inches of the two inboard tips.

The exhaust appeared to be "wet" today, perhaps because of the cooler temps and the dew point spread. Even after a twenty minute run there was some condensate.

Considering the "micro-crystals" on start up ... the paranoic thought went through my mind; could this be the start of a head gasket leak?

Mine did the same thing. The answer here was that its water and the inside is pitted(my choice of words) folks here said ignore it and I have.

Mine too. I put some WD40 on to coat them while storing Corvette.Save the wave.>George

whew! ...

:)

Thanks for getting back to me on this. It's the first time I have ever had a car garaged for the winter .... well, at least a month.

I was having visions of some catylitic/glycol reaction .... some kind of head gasket problem.

Thanks again!
