Is there anything good about salvage titled cars. I found a nice green 92, 6 spd 99k miles . The damage that is visable is a melted gasket where the hood seals against the firewall. The Radio doesn't work, the dash says that the ride control needs to be serviced, passenger side air vents don't seem to be connected and the cruise control is questionable. I figure these may be related to the fire damage but I'm not sure. Everything else seems fine and she drives very well.
Would you even think about $6500?

$650.oo =ok....$6500.oo = no way...split the difference would be absolute top as this poor thing has ZERO resale or insurable value...bud has a buick with 'salvage' title, dealers won't give anything (literally) on trade-in, several private sales died because banks will not finance 'salvage' .

Good choice in not touching it. I mean, if you were to totally tear it down and rebuild it and keep it, I would consider it. But then again, you wouldn't have to spend $6500 on a car that needed that much work. You could probably get one of those for next to free!:L

For a few thousand more, you could buy a fully running Corvette.

Maybe as a "parts car" only, but not for that much money!

Its worth half of what it would be worth with out the salvage title. In the insurance business it usually pays about half of the actual cash value when its a total loss.

You could buy a C4 corvette without a salvage title for that amount. The problem with salvage titles is no one in there right mind would consider it on a resale. You could buy it for parts to build a resto rod or, to repair a regular titled corvette, or even to drive and enjoy it, if of course it does drive OK. But should you decide to resell it, forget about it. They sound like such good deals, and may in fact be a good deal but I would proceed with caution.
