Would you buy a vette with a salvage title?

Can you import a vette with a salvage title into Canada?

Has anybody bought a vette with a salvage title?

1.Would you buy a vette with a salvage title?

That someone else Repaired???? Absolutely Not!!!!!!! That's a problem now day's, most builder's are just looking for a Quick Buck!!!! Cheaper is better,it really doesn't matter to them if the car is put back in Tip Top Shape or Safe!!! They don't care if you or your family are in a Safe Car!!!It's not there problem if in a couple years or weeks for that matter,if the occupants get dumped out on the pavement in a Collision because the frame was sectioned in a unsafe manor or not to I-CAR or NTHSA's spec's.!!!!!!There are to many Co's making Airbag look alike panels to replace in Dash and Steering Wheel to look like a airbag is in place, when actually there just foam filled Plastic!!!:mad :mad :mad This kind of repair should be a Felony in my Book, and is plain and Simple Fraud!!!!!There are still shops that weld frames back together with a torch and brazing rod!!!The high strength steel in todays autos is actually weekend by this method, and a Mig or Tig welder must be used "with other procedures" to maintain the Structural Integrity!!!!!!! There are now allot of states that when a Vehicle is Totaled,It will ALWAYS be SALVAGE and will never be able to be Registered!!!!!And there are other States that are Working on passing Laws that you have to be a Certified Licensed Re builder and Document ALL repairs, and have the proper equipment to do the Job!!! I'm for it!!!!!:D :D

I have no Idea!! I have enough on my hands keeping up with our State and Federal laws!!!! As a Dealer in NC,we have to go to school to learn new laws and regulations every year before we can renew our Dealers License!!!!!
Again, I'm for it!!!:beer

3. Yep, years ago I used to rebuild them for myself, drive them 15-30,000 miles find me another, build it and sell the old one!!!!!!But it was Road Tested by ("The Junkman") and free from Mechanical Defects and Safe!!!!! Now day's I will buy No Vehicles with Salvage History!!! Minor Accident Yes, on occasion, Salvage "Absolutely Not"!!!!!!!:upthumbs

laws are meaningless ..

The car you are driving right now may have had a salvage title and you won't even know it.

My next door .... actually a lot over .... had a 55 Vette & a 55 T-Bird .... and told me how the game works and that was what he did for a living.

If you bought a used car that had been registered in any other state other than the one you live it's easy.

For that matter, I suspect that my Toyota truck, even though bought from a local and large dealer (used), had a title that went through an out of state laundry.

:mad and the states could easily correct this ... they just won't!

I'm sure that "The Junkman" knows exatly what I am talking about, since my truck appears to have gone on "vacation" in Flordia.

IMHO... if a vehicle has ever been "out of state", you better have the car fully inspected by someone who knows what the hell they are doing.

PS ... this may not even show up in "Carfax" if the "repairs" are done cash and the titles ... you get the picture.

It's hard to find out history on a vehicle Older than 81!!! But can be done if you've got the Time and $$;) But you are Absolutely Correct about CarFax!!! There sometimes as much as a year late in updating Information!!!!
And yes there used to be a few States where you could Wash a Title, but now day's they purdy much have TIGHT Rein's on it!!!! The Computer age has now hit!!!!Insurance Co's,Manufacturers,Law Enforcement Federal,State,County and Municipal Agency's report to a Natl and Global Database!!!!

I use Auto Check,so do the Automotive Manufacturers,Auto Auctions,Insurance Co's and other people that Absolutely need to Know!!!! If a Car go's through a Auto Auction the Mileage will show within a week!!! If a Insurance Co totals one it will be there within a month or six weeks, and most won't even be out of the Salvage Pool yet!! The only ones that are hard to check is the ones that got Crashed or Flooded without insurance,so a Insurance Co didn't pay off!!!But there is a Good Chance that a Accident Report was written so that will at least show!!Law Enforcement reports take 30-90 days depending on the agency and state!! But you always want to have any Vehicle Checked by a Qualified Technician!!!!:upthumbs :w

I wouldnt buy any car that has a salvage title, especially a sports car. From my perspective its a lose - lose situation.

old Polish proverb;
''you are better off doing nothing than working for nothing.''

no matter what you do, the ''salvage'' label will always make the resale value very low...spend the extra to start with car that will increase in value as you ''invest'' your time and money...even if you never sell it, you will not ride around knowing that you are in a ''junker''.

Buy one as a parts car. To drive? No, I don't think so.

Salvage = Trouble - Always get clear. I made the mistake of buying a mazda salvaged and that thing had problems up the wazoo.

I looked into shipping a vette from the US into canada with a salvage title. It looks like they will go through the whole car and they might not even let it on the road up here, it will probably cost more than buy a really good one in the end. If it has a clear title and a few years old, there are no problems.

Used corvettes are usually double the price in Canada than the US.

I was hoping to buy a few vettes on ebay and resell them up here and make a little extra money.
