I'm am always truely astounded by the quality of work done by many of the members of this forum. I hate to list names anymore because there are so many of you that do such great work, but a few certain people just stand out as absolute true craftsmen and withut having to name them we all know who they are.

Well, I was at a show yesterday and saw a car that was done so well it is up there will the cars built by these few select gentleman on this forum!
I saw this car and my jaw just dropped, i think it's still bruised from hitting the ground. ;LOL
I looked, and looked, and looked and as much as I actually TRIED to find something to call a flaw on this car I couldn't.
The couple of pics i'm including don't even begin to show off the detail and perfection of what I saw on this car.
Larry in particular would have loved this car because except for the wheels it looked 100% stock until you looked at it. The interior looked completely stock also and you couldn't even see any vents for the A/C system and the first few glances I missed the conversion to digital gauges - although I would personally prefer nice modern anolog guages.
Under the hood the attention to detail was amazing and not a SINGLE wire could be seen anywhere! The current owner is not the one who built it - it was built down in Ga. but he knew of the car and after he bought it he told me everything was so well hidden that it took him two hours of searching to finally find the computer that runs the motor.
sorry to go on like this but I'm still in awe of seeing this car - I just wish I had more and better pics to show you.
Underneath, the frame and every single item looks to have been powdercoated and I'm ashamed to say that the underside of this car looks 100X better than the brand new paintjob I have on my '65! :ugh

I know it was in a number of magazines including June 2002 Corvette Fever
This is a car I'd LOVE to have sitting in my garage!

the woman at the picnic table in the blue shirt.....she has a problem with her middle finger.....looks like it is stuck in the perpetual up condition while the rest of her fingers are down....she should get that checked out by a doctor....

yes, I know about her "condition".
she is in our Vette Club and that's kind of her trademark. I can't think of too many pics she is in that she doesn't do that. Most of the time people don't notice when they take a pic with her in it until AFTER they see the picture. I'm so use to it from her I just expect it ;LOL

I guess since you commented on her that the '62 didn't strike you as well as it did me. sorry. I know from these few pics it's hard to see where my excitement came from. I guess it's a case of "you had to be there".
oh well.
:)

Barry the car looks stunning. Thanks for shairing it

I am going to post a picture to this post tonight of a 1961 or a 1962 that was an old school type of a hot rod. I had to work on sunday but I was able to drop my 62 off at a local show and picked it back up in the afternoon.

Man do I hate car shows and I really have to stop going to them. I love car cruises as they seem to bring out more of the real deal car people who are just in it for fun and will sit in the chair next to you and just talk cars

So 3 classes for my car

1-Concours 1953-1962
2-street 1953-1967
3-modified 1953-1967 (My class and the class the 1961 or 1962 was in I will post a photo of tonight)

First place winner in modified was a 1966 red small block All stock (not ncrs type of stock) with 1967 wheels on it.(the wheels made it modified)The paint on the car was a 10 as it was just the shinyest red paint . the engine bay was a 2 at most.

I did have a pest haunting me to sell my car, with the outstanding great offer of 38,000 and he kept showing me his bag man who supposedly had the money with him and he was shocked that I was turning him down.I did point them to the first place winner in my class as he was selling his car for 45,000.00

This guy was a great buisness man as he told me he just bought a new C5 convertable out of a show room (Notice I said C5 convertable) that he was able to negoceate a deal at sticker price. He told his salesman he would not pay a penny over sticker for it. I then asked if he meant C6.No he pointed to his new Black C5 convertable. I then explained C6 was the newest and he should go up to the Corvette salon on the roof to see the newest vettes . I explained they had a re-design and that most dealers are selling the C5'S below sticker to get rid of them as they are last years models 2004 and that normally in september they are releasing the 2006 model years.

Normally I never antagonize any one but this guy was such an ass with his oversized cigar. And his pants pulled almost up to his chest. The guy left with his bag man up to the salon to see the newest cars,That should have made his day

Edit YES I was bitter my car took secound to the red 66 ,I would not have caired if I took secound to the 1962 or 1961 (that I will post a photo of tonight) as it was a real cool car and deserved to get a trophy.

I am not sure if this was a show and shine show and in that case I should have not gotton any thing as my car was a mess and has finger prints all over it,water stains on the motor from the carlilse rain, and cigerette ashes on the inside from the ride over with the top down.

Larry
To me ALL car events are cruises. Even the "shows" are cruises to me as I really don't worry about trophies at all - which is just as well because I never get one anyway. Most of the time my car doesn't even get much looks at it as there are always so many other C2's at whatever show I go to that are so much nicer than mine.
I really only go to have fun, check out the cool cars and socialize. There are usually at least a few people I know either from my own club or other car owners i've gooten to know from other shows and usually some people that are new to me that I get to meet and talk to and just enjoy the time there with.
At this show we had 18 or 19 cars from our club all drive to the show together so there were a lot of us to socialize with plus I got to see a few people I know just from meeting them at other shows and I got to meet a member from the "other" forum that I've talked to numerous times online.
To me it's all about having fun. If I went only for the trophy I would have given up long ago. There is only one show over the last two summers that I went to that I would have won a trophy (Best of show yet!) but I didn't get it because I left the show early - that was the show last spring (May 2004) that the paint on my hood blistered).

That guy pestering you about buying your car and who just got "such a great deal" on the C5 sounds like a real character! Instead of getting annoyed, think of it in a humorous way - sometimes people like that can be more fun to watch than an Abbott and Costello movie! ;LOL
You know, I know how much work you put into your car but when someone like that comes up to you offering you money to buy it you should give him a price that is so outrageously high it blows them away. Either they will just immediately quit pestering you OR maybe you will get lucky and they are just dumb enough to take you up on it and no matter how much work you put into the car you can just laugh yourself all the way to the bank to deposit their cash. I mean, I don't know how much actual cash you have invested in your '62 (and i'm not asking!) PLUS all your hours of labor but say you told him you would sell it for oh, let's say, $135,000. You know he would slink away with his tail between his legs and if he actually called your bluff I'm sure with that kind of cash you wouldn't mind so much starting a new project! :D

Don't worry about the "shows" - just go, have fun, socialize and chat with the other car guys there and if you get a trophy than great and if you don't than so what as long as you had a good time. :)

Barry not to make this a chat room but, normally things just roll off my sholder.I had an open house for my comapny and was going beserk. Thats why I dropped off the 62 in the morning.

This guy was just an ass.I politely explained I had no intrest in discussing moneys with him,and as a matter of fact I told him his cigar stunk like a wet hourse droppings and it was giving me a headache,

But I think he wanted to loudly let every one know what kind of moneys he had in his bag.

I just never meet these folks at a car cruise.

On the topic, this is a "survivor" owned by one of our Club members. Those who attended the NCRS 2004 National in Windsor may have seen it there.

In my humble opinion I think that the '62 should have got best of show. The as far as I could tell, the car was purchased from a guy in TN in the modified condition it is now. That car must be a blast to drive!! The downside of those "voting shows" rarely the most worthy cars get what they deserve and if the do there is not really that much glory in just being a popularity contest. As long as you enter with that mindset you are usually okay. By the way, I did get a trophy...not that it matters. You can barely see my white hood up in the background. Good show, good pictures! Hopefully you will be at the Smithville show in Oct.

CP :upthumbs :beer

Barry..Alex took a few shots of that Beauty yesterday as well..I agree..It was just so well done and the chrome was magnificent....I would ahve voted it best of show , even though it did get Peoples Choice....It was worthy of any award it received.....Paint job was flawless....

Best of Show at the Glasstown show was always picked by a 3-4 person team of Corvettes Unlimited Members - not by peers or peoples choice. I would be very surprised if that was not the case this year. By the way -- what did win best of show ???

A conv '96 GS. A very nice car (about a half dozen of 'em at Carlisle 2 weeks ago) but there was at least 5 other cars that I thought were more worthy. There was a mid year BB elkhart blue with blue top that was nothing short of awesome. That one and the '62 I thought where above and beyond.

Larry

yep, sure does have that 60's vintage look - especially because of those old style wheels :)

Wow -- nothing against 96 GS's -- but come on -- I agree with you --the 67 Elkhart Blue car was drop dead georgeous as was the 62. Yep, I also saw several other cars that could have won. This example, along with others, is why I dont bring the car to this particular show anymore. And from what I hear about the final car count -- unfortunately so do many others.

John
I agree - the '96 GS was a nice car but there were even nicer ones there that I would have voted for as BOS. Oh well, it's not like my car was going to win and since I don't worry about trophies I didn't even watch most of the awards presentation.
It was still a nice day to bring the car out and see a lot of people and just have a good time.
It was nice seeing you again on Sunday even if it was only for a quick minute. Did you go over Terry's car with him? I love that car of his - hard to beat a nice BB air coupe :)

You are on the money with that one. I guess Smithville will be the same BS??? Is it the same format??
