I want to paint the buckles on my seat belts but cannot figure out how to separate the buckle from the belt. Any tips? Does the buckle need to be primered as well.

Thanks,

I have a late 66 with stainless buckle covers. The buckle comes apart when a putty knife is used to remove the cover. I painted the buckle button, bent the cover back into shape and snapped it together. If you can't remove the belt from the buckle after removing the cover, you have two options: You can cut the folded end open and sew it back, or you can wrap the belt in plastic and pull it through the buckle to mask the belt.
