Secret rear panel

Polite people say there is no question too stupid to ask. But here I am with what might be a question that is too stupid to ask.

I need to replace a license plate bulb. That's one of the two bulbs above the license plate. Can it be accessed by pulling out and removing the inside carpeted vertical panel in my coupe's rear? Will removal of that panel give access to the bulbs?

I don't think you can access the license plate light from there but I will look later my best guess for now is to remove one of the tail lights(two screws) and get at it from there.

The easiest access is through a taillight hole. You can also remove the entire license assembly by removing (4) T-15 torx screws under your license plate.

I may have misled everyone with my original post.

I need to replace one of the two bulbs above the license plate that illuminates the rear plate.

Can I get to those bulbs from inside the trunk by removing the vertical carpeted panel?

no, there is a bulkhead between them. The easiest way will either be thru the tail light or to remove the torx screws holding the fixtures on and pull out thru the openings. The carpeted panel is just a carpeted panel and doesn't uncover anything. I had mine off.

Go to sears and buy a set of torx screwdrivers, not the kind with the little bits that you change out. They give you about 20 bits and only 2 or 3 actulally fit anything; there is nothing worse then being on your back and having that little bit fall out and dissappear

Thanks to your help, I went out and photographed the torx area. What I discovered looking at the photo was that I could reach up in front of the plate and around the light assembly using my index and middle fingers. Using two fingers I twisted the bulb socket out of the assembly, let it drop down in front of the plate, and replaced the bulb.

I was almost easy.
