Security system?

I have a 94' Vette I just purchased, and I know very little about it no owners manuel or anything like that, how do I know if the security system works or is working? the light on the dash blinks "Security" but I really know what that means, and also I am not able to start the vehicle, (I just get a "Click" ) could this be a result of the security not working? I'm so confused!!

when the door is open, the security light should flash as you describe. if you use the power lock to lock the doors, you should see the light turn on steady until you shut the doors. Your car also came from the factory with PKE (Passive Keyless Entry) I assume you don't have the key fob that should come with the car? PKE allows you to just walk up to the car with the keys in your pocket, and the car unlocks... close the doors and walk away and the car locks and arms the alarm.

If you get a 'click' the security system does not sound bad. I am guessing something else (starter related?) it could be one of many things

When I picked up the car I got 2 keys one for the Ignition and one for the door, will the security system work? Or how do I use it?

all you have to do is lock the door with the power locks... that arms the system.. by using the key to unlock the doors the system will disarm. You can usually find the key fobs on ebay for around $50

Key Fob - radio transmitter / key ring. It has a door unlock button and rear hatch button (coupe).

I guess the previous owner didn't like them and trashed them before you got the car.

On your car, with the key fob trained and car set to act passively, you should be able to walk up to the car and have it unlock automatically. Also, you can shut the door and walk away and the car should lock and activate the alarm system.

Without the key fob, you must use the power door lock switch to arm the alarm system then shut the door. As stated before, the security light will flash when the door is open and the alarm is not set. Locking the doors with the power door lock will turn the security light on steady and arm the alarm. Close the door and it's active. Try not to do this while inside the car with the door open as you will set off the alarm.
