I just aquired a 79 L48, it has been painted purple, interior isn't in good shape, and needs alot of work. On the plus side, the motor is strong, new tranny, carb and intake (Edelbrock) accell distributor, headers, dual cat exhaust like new, and everything is tight and strong. My question is how much is this car worth as a hole car, and how much is it worth parted out? The reason I ask is I would love to have some of the parts myself, but once I do that, it won't run and will be harder to sell

It depends on what you want to end up with! It is obviously not worth much on its own, but can be made to be a real hot rod if that is what you want. If you just want to get rid of the car, but keep the drivetrane, you might watch out for low priced cars that might have a decent drivetrane, and switch it out and put the Vette on the market. There are also Vette salvage yards that might buy the body and frame from you. I wish you well!

My father in law passed away and left it to my wife, we didn't change the title over yet, or figure out just what to do with it. I think he paid 5000.00 for it in 2000, I would of never paid that much for it, but I don't really know what they are worth. I bought my 80 for 8500.00, it wasn't perfect, but in alot better shape than this is.

If there is a sentimental attachment, it probably would not take much to make it a daily driver, that is if the drivetrane is solid. We went through the same thing with my father-in-law a couple of years ago, so I can understand what you are going through. All of my life, I have driven GM cars and trucks, but when he died, he left me a Chrysler 300M. Because it was his, I still drive it as my daily driver. I have a '78 L-48 that is not worth much alone as a Vette, there are many more sought after models, so I decided to restore it to my taste. I am building a Big Block for it just because I have always wanted a Big Block Vette, but will probably never be able to afford a vintage one. Bottom line, do what ever you and your wife want to do with it. Take care!

Without pictures its hard to estimate value.

I would figure around $4k if you parted it out. (EASY WAY)
