Sending Unit in 80 Vette

Has anyone ever replaced a gas tank sending unit? I'm contimplating doing this on my 80. Can it be done without dropping the tank down? It appears that it would be very close to do without dropping the tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I dropped my tank back in January or so, I would have to say that it's just about impossible to change the sending unit without dropping the tank. Take a look at this and you'll see why; http://www.sharkwerkes.com/sharktank/tech2/rear4.html

I will say that it's not as tough as it looks, as long as the tank is as empty as possible.
