" service a.b.s light comes on ?"

hi there guys,
i have a question r.e service a.b.s light?
some times when i drive my 1991 corvette the service a.b s. light comes on the center info display!
what does this mean?
could there be a problem?
it does make the noise when i first reverse out of garage after start up like it should!
the light does night stay on all the time though!
comes and goes basically!
how can i service the a..b.s brakes?
will it be hard to do?
any info would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem it turned out to be dirt on the wheel speed sensor. A good cleaning on the back side of each wheel is all that was needed.
BTW the ABS is not operational when the warning light is lit

Had the same problem only when I hit the brakes hard. Turned out to be low fluid in the master cylinder. It wasn't much down, it appears to be very sensitive and if you don't have it right up to the top you get a warning..................

I had the same thing as Grizzly. Mine would also light up on hard acceleration. Fluid was only down about 1/8", I topped it off and no problem since. I would start there.

I had that problem and as someone has said, it was the brake fluid that was a little low.... topped it off and problem disappeared....

Worst case scenario, it could be the ABS controller/computer too. Mine needs replacing but I keep putting it off because of the price of the unit. One day I will get it done though but until then I just drive it without ABS being operational.

Another thought, if the other suggestions don't help -

Disconnect your battery for 10 minutes and the computer will reset itself.

I am a new owner and I was wondering what that noise was. So it should be making that noise everytime I back out of my driveway?

The noise is normal, System diagnostics.
