Need some advice here. I pulled a listing of service bulletins off the some website that apply to 96 Corvettes. There were two listed that applied to LT4s. One related to noises in the steering column, lick a clicking noise when the wheel is turned. The other one had to due with the valve train, roller rockers I think. I do have the noise in the steering column and on the valve train, I don't have a clue. I talked to the dealer, who looked up my VIN and said there were no outstanding recalls. On Service/Technical bulletins, they can't tell. And, the work related to Service/Tech bulletins is not a freebie. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks, John

Mine had the rockers done, a sticker was put under the hood. Course they can fall off. If the dealer runs the vin it'll tell if it's done or not. The rockers were a recall, I believe.

Was this done as the result of a recall or because you or the dealer knew about the service bulletin? Free fix? How long ago? Where did they put the sticker and what does it look like.

Thanks, John

It was done b4 I bought the car. It was called a "campaign" I'm going to try & attach a pic of the sticker. Driver side "cover" over the radiator. ANY dealer should be able to put your vin into a computer & tell if yours was done - whether or not the sticker is there.

Mine was listed in the computer data base as "done" AND it has the sticker.

Sorry, can't read the posted pic. It says :

GM
Campaign
96-C-07-12
completed
Dealer code
20521

You got me hunting for the recall notice. You're right, it was a campaign and listed the range of applicable VINs. Mine didn't match so that's good news. Thanks a bunch for your help.

John

That's interesting, I thought it was all LT4's , but obviously it was not. Maybe just the earlier ones? Anyway, glad I could help. SeeYa.

Post a pic of yours when you get a chance.

Go to Tech Center on this website, knowledge base, 1984 -1996 Corvette, engine mech, last item will give ya the scoop. What a website!

My LT4 which was purchased last year was one of the recalled cars for the rocker arm problem. Local GM dealer pulled the service records for me and it showed that the work was done. Also, the same local dealer was able to get my build list from his computer.

Don't let the dealer fool you...

The dealer can pull up the entire service history of the car, including any warrantee work that was done down to the date, part numbers, and dealer who did the work.
