My CE LT4 service engine soon light came on. I notice a uneven idle at a stop light, and when I took off the light came on. The next stop light the idle was smooth. I was wondering how to turn it off. I took the gas cap off, and I did have a 1/2 tank of fuel. I drove it home and let it sit overnight. This afternoon I started it and the light was still on. It was very hot out yesterday also. I sure don't want to spend the money to reset if there is a way I can do it. Thanks Larry;shrug

If you disconnect the battery ground, wait a few minutes, then re-connect it, it should re-set the SES promt but, if there is a problem it will come on again. An OBD code scanner is always a good investment (approx $150 from an auto parts store). It will also re-set SES and will likely give you a code on what's causing the condition.

Thanks So Bay Vetter, I did what you suggested, and it turn the light off. I will look into the OBD code scanner. Thanks again. Larry

Engine soon light

When I disconneted the neg on battery the light went out, but after I took it for a drive it came back on. It also ran rough like the tires were out of balance. I decided to take it to GM dealer. I was told that when you disconnect the battery it takes all codes out of computor. I did some looking for the best Corvette mechanic in the area and found one at this dealer. He has work on Corvettes for many years and I was impressed with him before he started. The problem was a bank 2 sensor 1 oxygen sensor faulty. It was necesary to replace sensor to correct the problem. He then had a talk with me about the problem. I had just purchased this car about 2 months ago, and it had not been driven that much. He said the gas was bad, and he told me to use pro guard additive, and gas booster from Lucas. He also said to use either Chevron or Texaco fuel, also to drive it more. I am going to take a trip to Seattle this week and will use some speed when I can. I took it out on a safe road to see if it ran better, and boy it was like old times, up to 115 in a short time,:) and very smooth. Life is great again. Larry

Code scanner

You can a basic scanner on Ebay for about $20. All you'll ever need.

Larry, if the owner's manual doesn't recommend those additives, then your car doesn't need them. This guy just sounds like a shill for Lucas, which only stops short of putting "snake" on their "oil additive" packaging.

You can borrow code scanners from major chain auto parts stores for free, they'll even give you a printout of all the stored fault codes.
