Hi,

I have a 2004 that has about 22K miles on it. I've been servicing the car at a Chevy dealership and I'm not too happy with the service. When I brake, the car does not brake smoothly. The dealership told me it was due to the fact that I don't drive the car often enough and I had to have my rotors repalced. I replaced the rotors about 6 months ago and still have the problem.

I'm looking for someone that specializes in servicng Vettes. It can be a local garage, private company or anyone that knows how to really diagnose a problem and service the car.

Thansk so much for your help:)!

IRF,
A suggestion you might try: see if you have any Corvette clubs in your area. Corvette club members are usually folks who are pretty enthusiastic about their Corvette experience, and will have gone through the weeding out process to find someone who works on Corvettes (either through a dealership or at a Corvette specialist shop). They may be your best source of information.

What part of central Jersey are you in? That is a lot of ground even though we are a small state.

I live in Central New Jersey, Monmouth County, the Ocean township / Long Branch area.

I work in the Rahway / Edison area.

Thanks:)

Thanks, Patrick. That's a great idea and could provide me with a lot of leads. :)

IRF:
:w That does not sound like a Vette issue. MOST decent mechanics/brake shops could fix it.

1. Look at the discs to see if they are uniformly "rust free". If there are sections of rust it indicates that the calipers are hanging up.
2. after a drive feel each wheel. if the pads are binding from a frozen caliper you will generate some additional heat on that one.
3. Also when they changed the rotors they should have checked to see if the pads were still bonded to the backing plates.;shrug

I do see some rust on the discs. it looks like spotted rust all over the discs. If thi sis the case, and the calipers are hanging up, what is the enxt step I should take? I will also check the heat after my drive home from work tonight. Shouldn't the dealership have caught this?

Thanks so much for your help :). At least I now have somewhere to begin. Hopefully I can now find the right mechanic!

Dont confuse the normal (daily) rust with the stripes of rust you see when there is a problem.

The rust I see is spotted rust and it's usually more visible in the morning before I drive. My car can also sit for a few days without being driven. Thanks for your help!!

I thought there was some "trick" to bleeding the brakes on a C5 and if you had some work done.

Darn, I forget what it was but it was something like ::::

Lighting a fire under a full moon

Sacrifice of a GTO or GOaT or something like that

Spinning around and clicking your heels three times ..... :boogie

No, I do remember that there was a trick to working on the brake fluids and was shocked when my brakes came back OK ....... this was also the time the guy screwed up my wheels and locks ... and he may not have changed the fluid like he said he did but I paid about $1,000 in unauthorized and (like $300 to "break the lugs off when the key was in the trunk) ..........

The car had to be on an angle or something ..... old age is horrible.

If you were closer to Flemington, I'd tell you where not to go ...... two have failed the test.

The guy who did my work in Raritan this week did a fine job but it was simple exhaust and oil change. I won't do an "endorsement" based on one good visit.

OK ... it was A&A Auto Care on Old York Road in Bridgewater .... small side of B'Water by the town of Raritan near Duke Gardens.

Central Jersey Corvette Club seems pretty decent. They meet in the Somerset County Admin Building on Main Street,Somerville on the third Wednesday day of every month at 7:15. I met and spoke with them on the street (cruise nights) and they seem like a real nice bunch of guys.

Thanks so much for the Corvette Club information. I really appreciate it. If that doesn't work I may be lighting the fire under the full mooon ;)

56-to-00: That guy should be shot!!:r
I had the same trouble but I didnt have the "key" at all. Some research disclosed that there is a tool for removing those "locks". It is like an easy out socket. As you turn it screws itself in. It is so effective that Chev no longer uses the locks.
But I had time and found that the keys are available from the manufacturer (AMCORE) @ ~$18. Just follow the order procedure or use your existing paperwork to re order.

I live in NJ, best place is in Mount Holly, Corvette Paramedics, they are right off the Turnpike I think exit 6, 206 south thats all they do is Corvettes www.corvetteparamedics.com 609-265-2702. The guy who owns the place is named Ron. They are good people and reputable. Me and my friends that have vettes use them. Hope that helps.

Paramedics ..... darned ..... what a place. Ain't much to look at but the rear shop is like Vette Heaven!

Nice crew too ..... they were even nice to me and even my .. oh never mind. But they were great even with my stupid (newbie) questions and stuff.

:thumb

I wish they were closer ..... wife won't move though ... ;squint:

Well when you get to the point where your head hurts from banging it against a wall, there is a EXCELLANT shop that I personal know and they give you perfection, not a repair job. And Corvette, cause that's all they do : Corvettes

www.contes.com

Or you want use a land line, 1-800-946-4929 and their at 851 W. Wheate Road
Vineland, NJ 08360

They have done work in the past on my one of my Corvettes, so I can rest assured telling you their not far, but do excellat work. If you call, ask for Joe Conti, he is a hands on owner and a hell of a nice guy. Just say jim Ward said to call that your having trouble getting good work done ! And if you see me coming down the road, Wave at me, nobody does anymore. :ugh

Contes is great too, bought three of my Corvettes from Joe, and sold him my last one to get the one I have now.
