Hi all, Im buying my first vette. I found the one I want. 1993 coupe, Grn, 6 spd. The thing is, is that the "Service Ride Control" light stays on. Can anyone tell me what the deal is? Is it a sale stopper? How much to fix...ect? It's from a dealer and they want $12500 w/ 92000 miles. The car is very clean! Oh yeah, what's w/ the "40th" eched on the seats? I thought those cars were purple. ANY comments on this car will be highly appreciated!

Problems with the FX3 ride control system can be very expensive to fix if you have to take the car for repair New shocks can run close to $200 each and that does not include the actuator which is very expensive just by itself. There is also a nylon gear on the actuator that can strip or break causing the shock to not adjust or the actuator to not send the proper signal to the computer. Unfortunately the gear is not "sold separately"!

The shocks can, however, be rebuilt by Bilstein for around $55 per shock. There is also a controller behind the driver seat that can be another big price to fix.

The SRC light means that a trouble code has been set in the computer. The techs can pull this code and tell what the problem is. If you really want the car, you should work with the dealer to get the problem resolved. If they won't fix it (and I think they should for the price) then look for another one.

As far as the FX3 system goes, I have it on my 92 roadster and I really love it. You can tailor the ride for the road conditions with a simple turn of the knob and it makes a big difference on the autocross course or for occasional open track days.

All 93 cars had the "40th" logo stiched into the seat backs. Only the Ruby Red cars were the special anniversary editions. Those cars had matching ruby interiors.

Good luck with your hunt for a Vette and welcome to the CAC!!

Cool, thank you for the info. In a worst case could I put regular shocks on the car until I saved up to fix it right? Also I ran the car through CarFax. Nothing bad there, however it is a CA car, does that chage anything w/ all the extra emisions? THX!

on my 92 it turned out to be the ecm. check it out before you throw money at it. corvette parts arn't cheep. i found this out the hard way. robert

Bilstein Rebuilds

Price is up. Bilstein now charges $100 to rebuild their FX3 shocks if you have a rebuildable core. Sorry. :cry

You need the supplement to the Service manual. You have the regular book, the LT5 book and then there is a electronics book which has the FX3 in it.

Here is some of the codes

12 = Start of sequence
13 = Left rear time out
14 = Right Front time out
21 = Left Front time out
22 = Right Rear time out
31 = Left Front out of position
32 = Right Front out of position
33 = Left Rear out of position
34 = Right Rear out of position

Out of position codes are triggered if the computer senses that the actuator has not found the end stop position on the shock. Remove actuator at the indicated shock. Turn the valve gear on the shock stops after about 3 / 4 of turn, then you have a bad actuator. If it spins around continuously then it is a bad shock
41 = Selective ride control switch short to voltage
42 = Selective ride control switch open contacts
You can have a code 42 if you leave the switch in between indented positions

43 = selective ride control switch circuit open.

Oh and if you need replacement parts, there are two different sets of FX3 gear 89-91 and 92-95. They are not interchangeable

Wow, thank you all for the input. This is good stuff. I've interacted like this with other motorcycle riders but I didnt know people with cars had a good thing like this going. Or was it just the fact that I was driving a Bonneville??!!? LOL. Hey at least it was supercharged. Mmmmm.............SC LT1??
