Well I took for granted that the service engine soon light coming on was the same old EGR code again. Well tonight the car started to idle a bit rough, idle surging mainly. I also noticed it running a little hot.

Well I get home, and pull the codes. I get a 24, a 42, and a 44. Okay when everything went back in , and out on a test drive the speedo didn't work, he found that problem and corrected it. I believe that is where the 24 or Vehicle speed sensor is coming from. Obviously he adjusted the timing after the car was running and had the EST wire off. So I believe this is the cause for the 42 error code, or Electronic spark timiing code.

However why I am getting a 44, Lean exhaust, is beyond me. I guess when I take it to him tomorrow, we can hook it up on the scanner. Is the oxygen sensor responsible for monitoring this? I would imagine. Well either one of three things is making it run hot.

1. The coolant level is not full, did momentarily have a low coolant light.
2. The water pump I bought is not keeping up with the increased heat due to the engine mods?
3. The car is running lean, and getting hotter.

What do you all think?

How much "hotter" is it running then it normally did? I am unsure what water pump you got, but I dont think it is...but then again, you have not yet told me all of what you've got done...

Generally, you are supposed to start with the lowest numbered code and work your way up, which sounds like what you have done. I would drive it and see if code 44 comes back now that the other issues are repaired. If it does, the O2 sensor is the primary part to look at assuming you haven't made any changes that would make the ecm unable to cope. But, other parts on their way out could cause the same symptom, i.e. low fuel pressure caused by a leaking regulator. If you want to drive it a while, you will probably see another code directly pointing to the defective part.

Well, I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator. I just put a bottle of techron in the tank, to see if it was a clogged injector or something. I dont really suspect that. The guy that tuned the car, after startup said he started the fuel pressure at 50psi and backed it down to 46, he said this is where the car seemed to run best at.

Did you find a problem with the regulator?

I checked the pressure tonight, and it was 55 with the vacuum line unhooked. It droped to 47 hooked up.
