I need to set the timig on my 78 L82 (automatic).
Do I need to disconnect the vacuum advance and plug it prior to the procedure?
The Haynes manual says to do it IF the VCI label says to. My VCI label is long gone.

Does anybody know for sure???

Jim,

To really answer that question to the fullest, you'll have to find out it your car is a Federal model or California model; Nevertheless, the the timed spark advance requires to disconnect and plug the vaccum source for your distributor.

I'm not sure how to do this, James, but I think that this source will aid you very well. It's the '78 Chevrolet Corvette Sercive manual for maintainance and repairs. I personally have to order this (like, this weekend), but I think this is a must-have for all Vette owners. You can find it used on ebay or some other place, but I just had this link handy. Good luck with her!! :)
