I'd like to lose more weight on the car- but keeping my tranny, AC and engine as-is. Here's what I have-

1978 Vette
Fiberglass rear mono spring
Lighter-than-stock-L88 hood
1980 composite seats
Aluminum TPI manifold
Astro II Acrylic T-tops
Fiberglass rear bumper
Billet aluminum wheels

I am thinking I'd like to get to the sub 3k weight- IF POSSIBLE. Not really likely, but at least loose (maybe) 300 lbs. Again, without amputating accessories (PS, AC/HVAC, PWs) or weakening my frame. I don't want the swiss cheese effect!

Thinking of aluminum A-arms, composite front leaf springs, aluminum VORTEC heads, water pump, radiator and the like.

What made the 69s so light?- was it a lack of creature comforts?

Any ideas on where else I can loose weight on the Vette would be appreciated!

I don't know if the side windows and glass tops from a 1981 or 82 will fit into a 78, but 1981 the General made the glass thinner to lose weight, also they went to a Stainless Steel exhaust manifold, and as you mentioned they saved 33 lbs with the monospring.
