After fooling about with some shops and paint quotes I finally decided on a place to paint my 1967 this winter. I grilled the manager, the shop foreman and even the painter. They has all the right answers re fiberglass. They advertised DuPont paint that was used very nicely on my former 1979, the Chroma Premier base/clear. It is a pretty car to this day.

I called today to confirm a date to get the car out of storage and into their facility in January. It will have to be flat-bedded as we heading into the depths of winter. (It is just pouring down freezing rain right now, the worse is yet to come.) I ran down the checklist again as I tend to be anal about my car. When I came to the paint brand box they said they changed from DuPont to Sherwin-Williams about a week ago. Something about feathering characteristics for collision work??

I want my Corvette painted not a kitchen! Or is that brand OK? I will be going with base/clear despite the views of purists. Your advice is appreciated.

You have had good results with the Dupont before. Stick with it. The told you they were going to use Dupont, make them stay with it. All you have to say is that you will find someone that will use Dupont .

At first I thought you were pulling our legs, then I thought maybee the body shop was pulling your leg.I did a google search and sure enough there is a website with there automoblie finishes.

If I get a chance I will ask my Painter if he has ever heard any thing good or bad about the product.

PS incase I never said it I really like the looks of your car with the wheels you have on it.

Sherwin williams have been making automotive paint for years .Its Ok stuff but what would make me more nervous is the fact that THEY just started using it a week ago.As with car manufacturers there are the top three and I would put Sherwin Williams as being the fourth, the Nissan or Toyota of paint.

Stay with Dupont or PPG. I had PPG in my shop for 15 years. I switched to Dupont about 5 years ago. When a shop changes there paint system it takes time to learn that new system. I agree with paintdaddy that Sherwin Williams is low on my list. They tried to get in my shop and others in the area a few years back and never made it.

Thanks for the comments! I guess there is another option. As I am comfortable with the staff and their facilities, I could stick with them and specify that the shop uses DuPont or PPG on my car. (Here I will express my ignorance of paint.) Would that require that they use different spray equipment compared with Sherwin-Williams?

Here is the 1979 with DuPont Chroma-Premier.
