Shift from Park

In the morning it is EXTEREMELY difficult to shift from Park to any gear in my automatic transmission 1998 Corvette...yes foot is on the brake and yes I am pushing the button on the shifter...after getting it in gear it seems to work fine for remainder of the day but problem appears again the next morning. Any ideas of the problem/solution???? Thanks for any help.

Hard to shift out of Park

Is your night time parking spot on an incline? If so set the parking brake, in neutral, prior to moving the shifter in to the Park position. My driveway is about a 35 to 40 degree angle and if I forget and go straight into Park it can be a bear! I believe the issue has to do with the stress placed on the parking pawl in the transmission when on a incline... Hope this helps..

you are correct... the stress put on the parking pawl when on an incline can make getting anycar out of park into a gear a real fight.

if you are on an incline I would suggest pulling the parking brake before you release the brake with your foot and the car rolls back onto the pawl.

I have a 1998 C5 auto with the same problem. I park it in the garage on a flat level surface. Start of a new day it tough to get it out of "park" postion but afterwards it shifts smoothly the remainder of the day. Anyone have any suggestions on the problem?
