Hi, does anyone know how to remove the knob from the post? I am going to be replacing the boot and the top consol plastic cover plate and I can not find any information on the removal and install procedure even in the shop manual?

Just pry it

If memory serves me correctly, you can gently pry the button off with a small flat head screwdriver. After you'll be able to see the securing mechanism.

Good luck.

Seems you can't link to a search, so I typed "remove auto shift knob" .

Gently pry off the shift button from the rear direction with a small, covered, flat screwdriver. (Don't worry it's hard to break.) It is simply held in place by a type of flat spring. Once romoved you will see that the knob is held in place with a small outside tru-arc (snap) ring. Use a small set of outside ring pliers to remove the ring. These pliers might be seven or eight bucks at any hardware or car parts. After removing the ring simply slide the knob off ! Note which direction both parts are removed because I have seen them both re-installed backwards. I would lube both parts with some light grease before I put it all back together. If your careful and use the right tools the job is a snap ! Good luck.

I agree with Jughead. Follow his procedure. One thing to watch out for, cover the shift knob with you free hand or a plastic bag when you remove the snap ring. That little sucker will take off for parts unknown if it slips. Don't ask how I know this.

Thanks very much Jughead, Steel Blue 91 and Moonunit 451 I really appreciate your help and hope some day I can be of assistance to you guys.
