Lift the faceplate, after removing a handful of screws AND the center bezel, and pull the stick to the Neutral area and look for a fork under the baseplate that is supposed to set on a pin on the trans mechanical linkage. Move the fork so it goes to the neutral position then try to set the plate over it.. Even if you are not in neutral the fork will be right if it gets on the pin. If the fork is missing or broken, a salvage shop will be able to get you another. The indicator is just mounted with small screws.
If you DO have to disassemble the indicator make a note of how the parts go together. The guide plate will go either way but one way it jams the indicator bar in the glass while the other way its free to slide as it should.
It may take a couple attempts but you just line up (approx) the fork and set the plate back down. Test by moving the stick back and forth before putting screws back in. Beware the lighter plug wire....its short.
